The Berlin Demography Forum (BDF) is a global, non-partisan platform providing a new impetus to raise awareness of the significance of demographic change both at a national and international level. [1] The forum brings together high-ranking politicians, scientists, business leaders, and representatives of international organisations and civil society to debate potential solutions and to contribute to sustainable development.

Conferences

Conference themes were: “Family – Children – Society” at the BDF 2012, “Generations – Learning – Prosperity“ at the BDF 2013, [2] “Trust – Security – Solidarity” at the BDF 2014 [3] and "Activity – Health – Participation" in 2015. The fifth BDF took place on February 24–25, 2016 on the topics of „Labour – Perspectives – Prosperity“. The sixth BDF is going to take place on February 15–16, 2017 in Berlin.

Organization

The BDF is a cooperation between the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and Allianz SE. In addition, the German Federal Ministries of the Interior and Health contribute to this Forum. The European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) is the host and partner of the BDF. Vodafone Foundation Germany [4] supports the Forum by sponsoring the Young Expert Panels. Wolfgang Ischinger and Jörg Rocholl (ESMT) are the patrons of this event.

The BDF is supported by an advisory council. In March 2014, Franz Müntefering replaced Ursula Lehr as chairman.

The Hertie School is a German private, independent graduate school for governance located in Berlin. Hertie School is accredited to confer master's and doctoral degrees. Half of the school's students are international, with more than 95 countries represented among alumni and currently enrolled students. The working language is English.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ursula Lehr</span> German academic, researcher, and politician (1930–2022)

Ursula Lehr née Leipold was a German academic, age researcher and politician. She was the first professor of gerontology in Germany, with a chair at the University of Heidelberg from 1986. She served as federal minister of youth, family, women and health from 1988 to 1991. She was a member of the Bundestag from 1990 to 1994. Returning to science, she founded the German centre for research on aging (DZFA) of the University of Heidelberg in 1995, and was head of the German National Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO) from 2009 to 2015.

Gottfried Hermann Gröhe is a German lawyer and politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who served as Minister of Health in the third cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel from 2013 until 2018.

The Young Initiative on Foreign Affairs and International Relations is a nonpartisan German think tank dedicated to promoting greater engagement of youth in international affairs. IFAIR was founded in 2010, during a summer school of the German National Academic Foundation and as of February 2018, had 190 members globally. Grouping activities in three lines of action ("Think.Lean.Act"), the think tank seeks to stimulate debates on topics of international politics, to support the professional development of its members, and to implement specific projects in the realm of international relations (IR). In the past, IFAIR has been pursuing its activities in collaboration with institutions such as the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Chancellery and the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. IFAIR's open think tank www.ifair.eu boasts more than 160 publications, including guest contributions from European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">German American Conference at Harvard</span>

The German American Conference at Harvard (GAC) is a student-led conference organized on a yearly basis since 2008. The conference brings together American and German leaders from business, politics, and academia with students. By building a community of aspiring and established leaders in the United States and Germany, the conference aims at bettering transatlantic relations.
According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt the German American conference has developed into an important "transatlantic summit".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Katarina Barley</span> German politician

Katarina Barley is a German politician and lawyer who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019, serving as one of its Vice-Presidents. She served as Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection in the fourth Cabinet of Angela Merkel. Prior to that, she had served as Federal Minister of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and, from 28 September 2017, as the acting Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, both until 14 March 2018.

The Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) is a meeting held in Bali, and attended by representatives from nations in the Asia Pacific region. The forum was initiated by Indonesia in 2008 with the stated aim of fostering democracy, human rights, equality, and mutual respect.

Climate-Alliance Germany is a network of about 150 civil society organizations, including environment groups, development groups, churches, organisations from the fields of youth, education, culture, social welfare and health, as well as trade unions, and consumer associations. Founded in 2007, the aim of the Alliance is to provide a common front to apply pressure to German decision-makers to adopt socially just climate action measures. Prominent members include WWF, BUND, and the trade union ver.di.

The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) is a research institution in Berlin. Its stated mission is to research “the development of the internet from a societal perspective with the aim of better understanding the accompanying digitalisation of all areas of life.”
