Bernardo Vargas (born March 31, 1939) is an Argentine former footballer.
Vargas played with Talleres Cordoba in 1958. [1] In 1960, he played in the Argentine Primera División with Racing, and later with Argentinos Juniors. [2] In 1964, he played in the Mexican Primera División with Club América. [1] In 1965, he played in the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League with Toronto Italia, where he secured an ECPSL Championship in 1966. [3] He played with Toronto Falcons originally in the National Professional Soccer League in 1967, and later in the North American Soccer League. [4]
In 1968, he played in the American Soccer League with Rochester Lancers. [4] The following season he returned to Canada to play in the National Soccer League with Toronto Hungaria. [5] He re-signed with Toronto for the 1970 season. [6]
The Open Canada Cup was an annual knock-out cup competition in Canadian Soccer. The competition was first held during the 1998 season as the CPSL League Cup. It was organized by the Canadian Soccer League originally as a League Cup for CSL member clubs. After operating the competition for several seasons as an exclusive tournament the league's ownership decided in 2003 to grant accessibility to all Canadian professional and amateur clubs. The decision was influenced by the lack of initiative by the Canadian Soccer Association in providing a potential candidate for the CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
