He commanded the South African Naval College [2] [3] and SAS Protea (A324). [3]

He served as Director Maritime Plans, SA Navy Hydrographer and Director Fleet Human Resources from 1999 to 2001, after which he was appointed Director Naval Personnel at the Navy Office. [1]

He was the Officer Commanding South African Naval College from 1989 to 1992. In 1993 he was promoted to Commodore and appointed Chief of Naval Staff Plans. In 1998 he was appointed Director Naval Acquisition before being promoted to rear admiral on 1 April 1999 with appointment as Chief Director Maritime Warfare. He retired from the Navy on 31 July 2001
