Bert Matter

Bert Matter (born 1937) is a Dutch composer and organist.

Matter was born in 1937 in Baambrugge, where his father was a church minister. At the age of 20, he graduated from the Rotterdams Conservatorium. Since 1960, he taught organ at the musical school in Deventer, and later also in Arnhem and at the Utrechts Conservatorium. Since 1969, Matter has been an organist at Saint Walpurga Church in Zutphen. [1] He retired from this position in 2002 and was succeeded by Klaas Stok. [2]

For some time, he served as the chief editor of Het Orgel, the official publication of the Dutch Organist Society. [1]

In 2012, Matter was awarded the Sweelinck Prize  [ nl ], the Dutch prize awarded to persons with an outstanding contribution to organ music. Matter received the prize for his role in the education of young organists, for his improvisation talent, as well as for his compositions which are known internationally. [3]

The Reger-Chor is a German-Belgian choir. It was founded in Wiesbaden in 1985 and has been conducted by Gabriel Dessauer in Wiesbaden. Since 2001 it has grown to Regerchor-International in a collaboration with the organist Ignace Michiels of the St. Salvator's Cathedral of Bruges. The choir performs an annual concert both in Germany and Belgium of mostly sacred choral music for choir and organ. Concerts have taken place regularly in St. Bonifatius, Wiesbaden, and in the cathedral of Bruges in its series "Kathedraalconcerten". The choir performed additional concerts at other churches of the two countries and in the Concertgebouw of Bruges.

Orgelkids is an educational project meant to familiarize and educate children with the pipe organ musical instrument. The project was initiated in the Netherlands in 2009 by Lydia Vroegindeweij and is directed towards cultural legacy and music education. Initially the project consisted of a website with educational tips and lesson suggestions to organize, among other projects, an excursion to a large pipe organ. Since 2013, Orgelkids has at its disposal a specially developed educational organ assembly kit. A complete, craftsman-built organ, in unassembled component parts, is contained in a lesson box. The instrument can be assembled and subsequently played. This so-called Do-organ is acquired or rented out by Orgelkids to schools, churches, organists, organ builders, organ teachers, or organ enthusiasts who want to organize educational activities for children and/or adults.
