Elizabeth Lockwood Hawley Monnot is the tenth diocesan bishop of Iowa in The Episcopal Church.

Biography

Monnot was elected on the third ballot as the X Bishop of Iowa at a special diocesan convention held on July 31, 2021, in Des Moines. [1] At the time of election, she was priest-in-charge of St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Rancho Cordova, California. [2] Prior to that she was co-rector with her husband at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Sacramento, California. [3] A majority of the standing committees and Bishops were required to consent to her election, and these consents were all obtained by mid September, 2021. [1] [4]

Bishop Monnot was consecrated in Des Moines on the Advent ember day of December 18, 2021, in a ceremony led by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. Monnot is the 1,139th Bishop consecrated in the Episcopal Church, and the first female Bishop of Iowa. [5] Bishops Alan Scarfe, Chilton R. Knudsen, and Lucinda Ashby acted as co-consecrators. Ecumenical co-consecrators included Amy Current of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Archbishop Melissa M. Skelton of the Anglican Church of Canada. [6]

Her husband, Michael, is rector at All Saint's Episcopal Church, [3] prior to which he was a Liaison to the Secretary of State for the Green Party of California. [7]

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, formerly known as Grace Cathedral, is the historic cathedral in the Diocese of Iowa. The cathedral is located on the bluff overlooking Downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1873, Trinity is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Episcopal Church in the United States. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. In 1983 the cathedral was included as a contributing property in the College Square Historic District, which is also listed on the National Register.

Henry W. Lee (bishop)

Henry Washington Lee was a 19th-century bishop in the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America. He served as the first Bishop of Iowa from 1854–1874. He also served as Provisional Bishop of Nebraska from 1857–1859 and Provisional Bishop of Kansas, 1860–1864.

Carl Christopher Epting is a bishop in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. He served the Diocese of Iowa as coadjutor bishop and diocesan bishop from 1988 to 2001, and as the Deputy for Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations for the Episcopal Church from 2001 to 2009. He then served as the Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Chicago from November 2011 through December 2015 before retiring. Harry S. Longley

Harry Sherman Longley was a 20th-century bishop in the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Woodliff-Stanley is the first regular diocesan Bishop for the Diocese of South Carolina since 2012, and the first female Bishop in the over 200 plus years of the diocese's existence.
