Bhaskar Ramamurthi is an Indian academic who served as the director of Indian Institute of Technology Madras from 2011 to 2022. He succeeded M. S. Ananth [1] and was succeeded by Prof. Kamakoti Veezhinathan. [2]

Career

Bhaskar Ramamurthi obtained his B. Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from IIT Madras in 1980 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1982 and 1985 respectively. He was awarded the University of California Regents Fellowship during his doctoral studies. [3] After obtaining his doctorate, he worked at AT&T Bell Labs for two years before joining the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras in 1986, where he is now the director. He served as the Dean of Planning at IIT Madras before taking over the role of director in September 2011. [4]

His research interests are on topics in modulation and coding for mobile communications, wireless communication networks and design and implementation of wireless local loop systems. He is one of the founding members of the Telecommunications and Computer Networking Group (TeNeT) group at IIT Madras. [5] He is the principal architect of corDECT wireless local loop system and Broadband corDECT Wireless DSL System, widely deployed in India and 15 countries. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering since 2000. [6] He was elected as a Fellow of IEEE, effective from January 2015. [7]

Bernhard H. Walke is a pioneer of mobile Internet access and professor emeritus at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. He is a driver of wireless and mobile 2G to 5G cellular radio networks technologies. In 1985, he proposed a local cellular radio network comprising technologies in use today in 2G, 4G and discussed for 5G systems. Angarai Ganesan Ramakrishnan is a senior professor of electrical engineering and an associate faculty of Centre for Neuroscience, both at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He also holds an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Heritage Science and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He heads the Medical intelligence and language engineering lab. He also won the Manthan Award 2015 for his project, “Madhura - the gift of voice”, under the category, e-education, learning, and employment. He is also one of the founder directors of RaGaVeRa Indic Technologies private limited recognized by the Karnataka Government as one of the Elevate 2019 Startup winners. He is one of the advisors of Bhashini AI Solutions private limited also recognized by the Karnataka Government as one of the Elevate 2019 Startup winners. From January 2017 to June 2020, he was a Member of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) since November 2019. Pavagada Venkata Indiresan (1928–2013) was an Indian engineer, educationist, and administrator. He served as Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Madras during 1979-1984. He was professor at IIT Delhi during 1965-1979 and 1987-1993.

Rainer Waser is a German professor of Electrical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He is also director of the section Electronic Materials at the Peter Grünberg Institute which is located on the campus of Jülich Research Center. His research and teaching is on solid-state chemistry and defect chemistry to electronic properties and modelling, the technology of new materials and the physical properties of construction components.

Ranjan Kumar Mallik is an Indian electrical and communications engineer and a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He held the Jai Gupta Chair at IIT Delhi from 2007 to 2012 and the Brigadier Bhopinder Singh Chair from 2012 to 2017. He is known for his researches on multiple-input multi-output systems and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, and The National Academy of Sciences, India. He is also an elected fellow of The World Academy of Sciences, Indian National Academy of Engineering, and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

Yendluri Shanthi Pavan is an Indian electrical engineer and a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is known for his studies on mixed signal VLSI circuits and is an elected fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is also a fellow of IEEE. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 2012.

Abhay Karandikar is an Indian educator, engineer and advisor, best known for his work in telecommunication sector in India. He currently serves as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prior to that, Karandikar has held a number of positions including Dean and Institute chair professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay; Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and TSDSI. He was one of the founding members of Telecom Standards Development Society of India and appointed as its first Vice Chairman from 2014 to 2016, and then was appointed its Chairman from 2016 to 2018. He was chairman of the committee to give recommendations to Government of India on size, scope and quantum of spectrum for experimental spectrum license for 5G.
