The 2019 Rugby World Cup was the ninth edition of the Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's rugby union teams. It was hosted in Japan from 20 September to 2 November in 12 venues all across the country. Baker Reagan Mayfield is an American football quarterback for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). Jacoby Jajuan Brissett is an American football quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Florida before transferring to NC State, and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. As a member of the Patriots as a backup to Tom Brady, the Patriots won Super Bowl LI over the Atlanta Falcons, although Brissett was inactive, and was traded to the Colts the following season. Originally meant to serve as a backup to Andrew Luck, Brissett ended up starting 15 games for the Colts in the 2017 season due to Luck being injured, and threw for over 3,000 yards and 13 touchdowns; he returned to his backup role the following year. Following Luck's retirement prior to the 2019 season, Brissett became the Colts full-time starting quarterback.

The 115th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff played between the American League champion Houston Astros and the National League champion Washington Nationals. The series was played from October 22 to October 30. The Nationals won the series, four games to three, to secure their first title in franchise history. Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) after earning two wins in the series.
