Bibb Correctional Facility is an Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) prison for men located in Brent, Alabama, United States. [1] [2]
The prison is located on about 250 acres (100 ha) of rural wetlands. [1]
The plans for Bibb began in July 1991, during the rule of Governor of Alabama Guy Hunt and Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner Morris Thigpen. Construction began in 1993, during the rule of governor Jim Folsom Jr and ADOC Commissioner Tommy Herring. Construction continued in the years 1993 and 1994, during the Folsom governorship and the Herring rule of ADOC. In 1995, during the period Fob James was governor and Ron Jones was ADOC commissioner, construction stopped. Construction resumed during the rule of ADOC commissioner Joe Hopper. In July 1997 the state transported prisoners from the Elmore Correctional Facility and the Farquhar Cattle Ranch to the Bibb site in order to assist the construction. [1]
During a period in 1998 the state transferred 300 prisoners to assist in the final construction and preparation of the Bibb facility. The state transferred 75 minimum custody prisoners to Bibb on May 28, 1998. The following day, the state transferred another 75 prisoners. The state relocated 150 prisoners to Bibb during July of that year. [1]
The facility officially opened in October 1998, and during that month the prison took in 600 minimum and medium custody prisoners. During a period beginning on December 4, 2000, the prison received additional prisoners, with up to 100 prisoners arriving each day. Once the prison's capacity of 1,824 prisoners was reached, the transfers stopped. [1]

The Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Concord (MCI-Concord) was a medium security prison for men located in Concord, Massachusetts in the United States. Opened in 1878, it was the oldest running state prison for men in Massachusetts. It was under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Department of Correction. The facility had a total capacity of 614 general population beds, but with a long-term decline in the number of men incarcerated for the entire state, the population as of January 2024 had decreased to about 300, which made Governor Maura Healey announce a plan to close the prison in the summer of that year and transfer the remaining prisoners to other facilities.
The Kentucky State Penitentiary (KSP), also known as the "Castle on the Cumberland", is a maximum security and supermax prison with capacity for 856 prisoners located in Eddyville, Kentucky on Lake Barkley on the Cumberland River, about 4.8 kilometres (3 mi) from downtown Eddyville. It is managed by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Completed in 1886, it is Kentucky's oldest prison facility and the only commonwealth-owned facility with supermax units. The penitentiary houses Kentucky's male death row inmates and the commonwealth's execution facility. As of 2015, it had approximately 350 staff members and an annual operating budget of $20 million. In most cases, inmates are not sent directly to the penitentiary after sentencing but are sent there because of violent or disruptive behavior committed in other less secure correctional facilities in the commonwealth. This was Kentucky's second penitentiary: the first was made uninhabitable by a flood in 1937.

Arizona State Prison – Kingman is a privately run minimum/medium-security prison designed to hold 3500 prisoners. It is located in unincorporated Mohave County, Arizona, in Golden Valley. When the idea of the prison was being sold to the residents of Golden Valley it was promised that it would be a prison only for Dui offenders. It was operated by the Management and Training Corporation under contract to the Arizona Department of Corrections until August 2015. MTC had been criticized for allowing the homicidal escape of three violent prisoners in 2010. The state began seeking an alternate provider after it found MTC failed to control riots on July 1, 2 and 4, at Kingman, in July 2015.
The Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women is a prison for women of the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), located in Wetumpka, Alabama named after prison reform activist Julia Tutwiler. All female inmates entering ADOC are sent to the receiving unit in Tutwiler. Tutwiler houses Alabama's female death row, which qualifies it for the "maximum security" classification.
