The Big Brother Awards in Finland is the version of the international Privacy International's Big Brother Awards by Electronic Frontier Finland. The purpose of the Big Brother Awards is to draw attention to the violations of privacy that have occurred in society. In year 2008 there were awards in three categories: personal, the government and private sector organization.

In Finland, together with Big Brother Awards, there is also a positive nomination that is named after Winston Smith from George Orwell's book Nineteen Eighty-Four. This award is given to a person who or an organization which has advanced privacy protection and democracy most during the year.

Big Brother Awards in Finland have been recognized in years 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Big Brother Awards Humorous award for threatening personal privacy

The Big Brother Awards (BBAs) recognize "the government and private sector organizations ... which have done the most to threaten personal privacy". They are named after the George Orwell character Big Brother from the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. They are awarded yearly to authorities, companies, organizations, and persons that have been acting particularly and consistently to threaten or violate people's privacy, or disclosed people's personal data to third parties.

Startpage is a Dutch search engine company that highlights privacy as its distinguishing feature. The website advertises that it allows users to obtain Google Search results while protecting users' privacy by not storing personal information or search data and removing all trackers. Startpage.com also includes an Anonymous View browsing feature that allows users the option to open search results via proxy for increased anonymity. Because the company is based in the Netherlands, it is protected by Dutch and European Union privacy laws, and thus is not subject to United States surveillance programs, like PRISM.

Madventures is a Finnish travel documentary television program that concentrates on backpacking in the most off-the-beaten-path destinations on the planet.
