The Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) is an autonomous sports governing body in the Indian state of Bihar. ^{[1] [2]} It was established to promote sports development, provide infrastructure, and support athletes across the state. ^{[3] [4] [5] [6]}

BSSA was established on 25 March 2023 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, as part of the Government of Bihar’s initiative to strengthen the state's sports ecosystem. ^[7]

BSSA manages and oversees various sports facilities in Bihar. The most prominent is the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, which hosts national-level events and training camps. ^{[8] [9]}

Activities and Initiatives

• Coaching Recruitment: In 2025, BSSA announced recruitment for 103 coaches in 25 sporting disciplines including athletics, boxing, kabaddi, swimming, and shooting. ^[10]
• Talent Search: The Bihar Khel Pratibha Khoj Pratiyogita was launched to identify sporting talent among approximately 6 million students across 40,000 schools, with the long-term aim of preparing athletes for the 2032 Olympics. ^[11]
• Events: BSSA supports events such as the district-level sports festivals, and state-level school games. ^[12]

Role in Major Events

BSSA has been involved in the organization of several major sporting events:

• The 2025 Khelo India Youth Games hosted in Patna and Rajgir. ^[13]
• The 2025 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup trophy tour across Bihar. ^[14]
• Support for the Asia Rugby U-20 Championship 2025 in Rajgir. ^[15]
