Odisha, formerly Orissa, is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the 8th largest state by area, and the 11th largest by population. The state has the third largest population of Scheduled Tribes in India. It neighbours the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand to the north, Chhattisgarh to the west, Andhra Pradesh to the south. Odisha has a coastline of 485 kilometres (301 mi) along the Bay of Bengal. The region is also known as Utkala and is mentioned in India's national anthem, "Jana Gana Mana". The language of Odisha is Odia, which is one of the Classical Languages of India. The ancient kingdom of Kalinga, which was invaded by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka in 261 BCE resulting in the Kalinga War, coincides with the borders of modern-day Odisha. The modern boundaries of Odisha were demarcated by the British Indian government when Orissa Province was established on 1 April 1936, consisting of the Odia-speaking districts of Bihar and Orissa Province. The first of April is celebrated as Utkala Dibasa. Cuttack was made the capital of the region by Anantavarman Chodaganga in c. 1135, after which the city was used as the capital by many rulers, through the British era until 1948. Thereafter, Bhubaneswar became the capital of Odisha. The economy of Odisha is the 16th-largest state economy in India with ₹5.86 trillion (US$77 billion) in gross domestic product and a per capita GDP of ₹127,383 (US$1,700). Odisha ranks 32nd among Indian states in Human Development Index.

It is situated about 328 kilometres (204 mi) west of state capital Bhubaneswar and is surrounded by a range of hills and encircled by the rivers Koel, Sankha, & Brahmani. The city is also popularly known as Ispat Nagar and Steel City of Odisha as well. One of the largest integrated steel plant set up with German collaboration Known as Rourkela Steel Plant, of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). It also has one of the premier national level technical institute known as National Institutes of Technology (NIT Rourkela). Every year, on 3 March Rourkela Day has been celebrated.

Biju Patnaik International Airport, also known as Bhubaneswar Airport, is an International airport serving Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. It is situated around 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south-west from Bhubaneswar railway station and 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the city center. Named after the former chief minister of Odisha, Biju Patnaik, a famed aviator and freedom fighter, it is the 16th busiest airport in India and 11th busiest among the airports maintained by Airports Authority of India, registering an 11.7% fall in traffic over the previous year.
National Institute of Technology Rourkela, formerly Regional Engineering College Rourkela is a publicly funded institute of higher learning for engineering, science and technology located in the steel city of Rourkela, Odisha, India. It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. It is ranked 16 in the NIRF Rankings 2020 of Indian engineering universities.
Sundergarh is a town in Sundergarh district of the Indian state of Odisha. As of 2011 census, the municipality had a population of 45,036. Sundargarh is recognized as an industrial district in Odisha. Michael Kindo was an Indian field hockey player from the tribal belt of Jharkhand. He played at full back defender position and represented India and competed in the 1971 Men's Hockey World Cup, 1972 Summer Olympics, 1973 Men's Hockey World Cup, 1974 Asian Games, 1975 Men's Hockey World Cup. Prior to this he had competed in several local, national and regional competitions. In 1972, he became the first Adivasi sportsperson to be awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award.

Purushottam Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) is a private co-aid undergraduate engineering college located in semi rural part of Mandiakudar of semi urban town Kansbahal. The institute was established in 1999. In the beginning, the institute temporarily functioned in the campus of Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector 06 of city Rourkela, with small a number of students and faculty. In 2001 the institute moved to new campus located at Mandiakudar, 30 km away from the city Rourkela.

Damodar Acharya is an Indian engineer and educationist. He served as the director of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur from July 2007 to 30 June 2012. The government nominated Prof Acharya as a director on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India in October 2012.
The Kalinga Stadium is a multi-purpose International stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Its foundation stone was laid by former chief minister of Odisha Late Biju Patnaik in 1978. It is the home ground of the I League Club Indian Arrows since 2018 & the Indian Super League Club Odisha FC since its inception in 2019. It is situated in the heart of Bhubaneswar near Nayapalli area. It has facilities for athletics, football, field hockey, tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, Wall climbing and swimming. Other features of the stadium includes an 8-lane synthetic athletics track, high performance centres, and India's first Olympic standard pink and blue water-based AstroTurf.

Field hockey, athletics, tennis, rugby union, rugby sevens, association football and cricket is the most popular sports in the Indian state of Odisha. It is also called as 'Sports Capital'. The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar hosted the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup from 28 November to 16 December 2018.
K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA) is an autonomous institute established by the Government of Kerala at Thekkumthala, Chengalam East Village in Kottayam District of Kerala state as a training-cum-research centre in film/audio-visual technology. The institute, named after K. R. Narayanan who was the President of India during 1997 - 2002, was inaugurated by Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India, on 11 January 2016. The Institute is managed by a Governing Council which has Chief Minister of Kerala as Chairman and Minister for Education, Kerala State, as Co-Chairman and twelve members. There is also an Academic Council consisting of people for the film and television industry.
The Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium is an under-construction hockey stadium that is being constructed in Rourkela, India. The stadium is being built to host the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup which will be held in the Indian state of Odisha. The stadium has been named after the tribal leader, Birsa Munda who was a famous freedom fighter. The total capacity of the stadium will be 20,000 and once completed, it will be the largest hockey stadium in India.
Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) is a professional field hockey institute located at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was launched on 13 August 2019 after Government of Odisha, Tata Steel & Tata Trusts joined hands to initiate a three-pronged programme under the HPC banner of Government of Odisha. It is one of the 11 HPCs at the Kalinga Stadium which have been set up under the governance of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Commissioner Cum Secy Sports Shri Vineel Krishna, who have been very influential in development of sports in the state.
