Billiards and Snooker at the 2005 SEA Games were held at the Makati Coliseum in Makati, Metro Manila. Participants competed in several events. This was the first time that women were allowed to compete in the events.

Efren Manalang Reyes, popularly known by the nicknames "Bata" and "The Magician", is a Filipino professional pool player. Reyes is widely considered one of the greatest pool players of all time. In 2003 he was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame. A winner of over 100 international titles, Reyes was the first player to win the WPA World Championships in two different pool disciplines. Among his numerous titles, Reyes is a WPA World Nine-ball Champion and WPA World Eight-ball Champion, a U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship winner, a four-time Sands Regency 9-Ball Open winner, and a thirteen-time Derby City Classic winner. Reyes also represented the Philippines at the World Cup of Pool, winning the event with his partner Francisco Bustamante in 2006 and 2009. Reyes defeated American legend Earl Strickland in The Color of Money challenge match in 1996, in a winner-take-all prize of $100,000.

The 1991 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 16th Southeast Asian Games, was a multi-sport event held in Manila, the Philippines from 24 November to 5 December 1991, with 28 sports featured in the games. This was the second time that the country hosted the games and its first since 1981. It was officially opened by President Corazon Aquino at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila through a colorful opening ceremony. It was the only SEA Games at that time where the overall championship was heavily contested. The deciding medal came from the last sporting event - women's marathon where Indonesia got the gold medal.

Alejandro Salvador "Alex" Pagulayan is a Filipino-born Canadian professional pool player. His nickname is "the Lion", given to him by the great Cliff Thorburn, former World Snooker champion. Alex was born in Cabagan, Isabela, Philippines and was raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2012, Pagulayan became a citizen of Canada and now resides in Toronto.

The cue sports of snooker, English billiards, and three-cushion carom for men, as well as eight-ball and nine-ball pool for both men and women, were contested at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from December 4 to December 11. All events were held at the Al-Sadd Multi-Purpose Hall.

Jasmin Ouschan is an Austrian professional pool player from Klagenfurt, Carinthia. Her first professional competition occurred in 2002, but she did not officially become a professional member of the Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) until 2007. She is currently one of the top-ranked women in the world according to the 2010 prize money list and by the WPBA rankings. At times, she has been ranked as the number one female player in the world. Since 2006, she has been listed among the top-ten women in the annual prize money rankings. Ouschan competes regularly with men on the Euro Tour and in 2008 became the first woman to earn a medal in an open world pool championship.

The billiards and snooker events at the 2007 SEA Games were held at the Sima Thani Hotel Grand Ballroom, Nakhon Ratchasima from 7 December to 14 December. There were thirteen events in total, ten men's and three women's. Thailand was the most successful nation overall, winning five gold medals.

The cue sports was one of the many sports which was held at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea between 1 and 8 October 2002. The competition took place at Dongju College Gymnasium. The competition included only men's events.

This year's Philippine contingent at the 26th Southeast Asian Games consists of 512 athletes and 140 officials which is higher than the proposed contingent. Filipino Athletes will compete in a total of 39 sports events. The games will be held from 11 to 22 November 2011 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

Cue sports was contested at the Asian Games for the first time at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand between 6 and 19 December 1998. The competition took place at the Land Sports Complex. The competition included only men's events.

Billiards and snooker at the 2015 SEA Games was held in OCBC Arena Hall 4, in Kallang, Singapore from 6 to 10 June 2015. Ten competitions was held in men's snooker singles, snooker doubles, English billiards singles, English billiards singles, English billiards doubles, English billiards team, 9-ball pool doubles and in men's 1 cushion carom and in men, women's 9-ball pool singles.
