William Bender (born 9 June 2001) is an American rower. He competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Early life

From Norwich, Vermont, he attended Hanover High School and Dartmouth College. He won bronze at the 2021 IRA National Championships and all-American honours at Dartmouth. He competed internationally for the United States at under-23 level. [2] [3]

Career

Bender placed fifth at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Serbia in the men's coxless pair with Evan Olson. [4]

He won the men's pairs at the 2023 US Rowing Senior National Team Trials alongside Oliver Bub. [5]

He competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics alongside Bub in the men's pairs, where they reached the semi final. [6]

Rowing has been part of the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1900 Games. Rowing was on the program at the 1896 Summer Olympics but was cancelled due to bad weather. Hamish Bryon Bond is a retired New Zealand rower and former road cyclist. He is a three-time Olympic gold medallist at the 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He won six consecutive World Rowing Championships gold medals in the coxless pair and set the current world best times in both the coxless and coxed pair. He made a successful transition from rowing to road cycling after the 2016 Summer Olympics focussing on the road time trial. He returned to rowing for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, winning a gold medal in the men's eight.

Erik Horrie is an Australian wheelchair basketball player and a five-time world champion rower. He was a member of the Australia men's national wheelchair basketball team. Switching to rowing in 2011, he made an immediate impact in the sport, first winning the NSW State Rowing Championships and then the National Rowing Championships in Adelaide. He has won silver medals at the 2012, 2016, 2020 Summer Paralympics and gold medals at the 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018 World Rowing Championships. Horrie has selected for the 2024 Paris Paralympics - his fourth Games.

Spencer Alf Turrin is an Australian representative rower. He is a national champion, twice world champion, a dual Olympian and an Olympic champion. He competed and won medals in the Australian senior men's coxless four at every World Rowing Championship from 2013 to 2018, culminating in consecutive world championship gold at Sarasota 2017 and 2018 Plovdiv. He rowed in the two seat of the Australian men's coxless four to a gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, he competed with the eight and won gold in the same boat class at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Murray has won four consecutive premier national titles in the coxless pair. He has been world champion in age group rowing events three times.

Harrison Nichols is an Australian rower of the Australian Olympic Rowing Team, set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is best known for winning the 2023 double-gold medal in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four at the International Para Regatta in Gavirate, Italy and qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics by placing in the World Rowing Championships, Belgrade 2023.

Guillaume Krommenhoek is a Dutch rower. After he quit his American Football career he started rowing in 2015 at students rowing association A.A.S.R. Skoll. He competed in the men's coxless pair at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Currently he is the stroke of the men's eight that won a silver medal at the 2022 World Rowing Championships. He is preparing to compete in his second consecutive Olympics in Paris in 2024.

Tom Mackintosh is a New Zealand rower. He is currently a single sculler, and is the reigning world bronze medal holder, a feat achieved in his debut season in the class. Mackintosh is also a reigning olympic champion, but in the sweep discipline, having won a gold medal in the eight in his Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Off the water, Mackintosh is also a public speaker and entrepreneur.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rowing at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span>

The rowing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 27 July to 3 August at the Stade nautique de Vaires-sur-Marne, National Olympic Nautical Stadium of Île-de-France in Vaires-sur-Marne. The number of rowers competing across fourteen gender-based categories at these Games has been reduced from 526 to 502, with an equal distribution between men and women. Despite the slight changes in athlete figures, the rowing program for Paris 2024 remains constant from the previous edition as the competition will feature an equal number of categories for men and women, with seven each.

Daire Lynch is an Irish rower. Competing With Philip Doyle in the double sculls, he won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Rowing Championships, and is a finalist at the 2024 Olympics.
