Bimba (The Image) is a 2004 Indian Kannada-language children's drama film directed by Kavitha Lankesh and starring Baby Raksha, Daisy Bopanna, Prakash Raj and Sampath Kumar.

The film follows a rising child artiste Indu, who gets exploited into the glamorous world of cinema. [1] [2] [3] This film won two Karnataka State Film Awards: Best Female Child Actor for Raksha and Best Screenplay for Lankesh. [4] [5]

Cast

Production and release

The film began production in 2002 with Raksha playing the lead role of a child actor. [7] This film marked the debut of Daisy Bopanna and Sampath Kumar, who play Raksha's parents. [8] Jayasri Devi was to produce the film before Lankesh herself decided to produce it. [7] [2] Prakash Raj, Ramesh Aravind and Prema were to play guest roles in the film although Ramesh and Prema did not feature. [8] [6] Hamsalekha was originally supposed to compose the music but he was replaced by Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. [7] Despite being Lankesh's third film, it ended up releasing after her fourth film Preethi Prema Pranaya (2003). [2]

Reception

A critic from Deccan Herald wrote that "There are also many films earlier which focus on the darker side of filmdom. But, Kavitha Lankesh’s Bimba stands out among them as it focuses on child artists in cinema. Perhaps, it may be the first Kannada film to do so". [9] A critic from indiainfo wrote that "Overall BIMBA is a film that makes one ponder about the problems faced by child artists". [10]

Sampath Raj is an Indian actor who works predominantly in Tamil and Telugu films, in addition to Kannada and Malayalam films. He is best known for appearing in each film of director Venkat Prabhu's trilogy, consisting of Chennai 600028, Saroja and Goa. He has also acted in supporting roles in various other films. He is mostly known in negative roles. He played a brief role as Ekambram in Malgudi Days for the episode "Neighbors Help", which was directed by Kavitha Lankesh. After a sabbatical, he returned to Kannada cinema with the film Shourya (2010).

It was produced by "Indo - Hollywood" films, consisting of five producers, namely Mano Murthy, Ram Prasad, Dr. Renuka and Somashekar. The music was composed by Mano Murthy.

Thavarige Baa Thangi is a 2002 Indian Kannada-language drama film directed by Om Sai Prakash and written by Ajay Kumar. The film cast includes Shiva Rajkumar, Anu Prabhakar, Radhika, Adarsh, Hema Choudhary and Komal Kumar among others. The film was produced by R. S. Gowda while the original score and soundtrack were composed by Hamsalekha.

Shourya is a 2010 Indian Kannada-language action film written by J. Siva Kumar and directed by Sadhu Kokila. The film stars Darshan and Madalasa Sharma, making her debut in Kannada films, in the lead roles. It is a remake of the successful Telugu film Souryam (2008) starring Gopichand and Anushka Shetty.

Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neene is a 1998 Indian Kannada-language film directed by K Nanjunda starring Prakash Raj, Vineeth and Ayesha Jhulka and in the lead roles. Ravichandran and Ramesh Aravind make special appearances. The film was dubbed in Tamil as Nee Indri Naan Illai and in Telugu as Preminchalani Undi.
