Biodun Ogunbiyi Listen ⓘ is a Nigerian politician from Ogun State. He was a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, but left the party in 2006 with a faction to found Democratic People's Party following a dispute that led to the suspension of the Deputy National Chairman, North, Jeremiah Useni in 2006.

In October 2004, convoys carrying Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel and his wife were attacked in Ilaro, Ogun State. Governor Daniel accused the former governor of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, of organizing the attack. Ogunbiyi described the allegation as "sheer deceit and hypocrisy". [1] In March 2006, Ogunbiyi said that the poor rating of Ogun State in the States Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy report showed that Gbenga Daniel's administration thrived on propaganda. [2] Ogunbiyi described a November 2008 dispute between Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello as "not only an embarrassment but a disgrace to the peace-loving people of the Gateway State of Nigeria." [3]

In 2006, he became a founding member of the Democratic People's Party (DPP), along with Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, former Sokoto State governor and a 2007 presidential candidate, and retired general Jeremiah Useni. [4]

In December 2008, he was named Chairman of the Interim Executive Committee of the Democratic Peoples Party at a meeting where Jeremiah Useni was suspended indefinitely for abuse of power and non-performance. [4] Jeremiah Useni rejected the decision, and claimed that Ogunbiyi had been expelled from the party in August 2008, after openly declaring for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at a rally in Sokoto. [5] Useni later claimed that the Sokoto State government was using the faction to withdraw all DPP court cases against Sokoto Governor Aliyu Wamakko. [6]

Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa said that the suspension of Useni was illegal, as did National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Ismaila Sani. However, Secretary of the Democratic Peoples Party, Alhaji Abubakar Aminu, supported Ogunbiyi's appointment. [7] In January, National Publicity Secretary Dr Anyigor Vincent condemned the courtesy visit that Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa paid on President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua during the 2007 polls. [8]

Jeremiah Timbut Useni is a retired Nigerian army lieutenant general, who served as minister responsible for the administration of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja under the Sani Abacha military junta. He served Nigeria in various capacities such as Minister for Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigeria Army. Useni also served as Deputy Chairman of one of the significant parties in Nigeria, the All Nigeria Peoples Party. He was elected Senator for the Plateau South constituency of Plateau State, Nigeria in the March 2015 national elections. Useni was running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

The Democratic People's Party is a Nigerian political party founded in 2006 by an aggrieved faction of the All Nigeria Peoples Party. The party, which has a broad political base, supports economic deregulation, human rights; and greater funding for health care and education, among other goals.

The $2 billion arms deal, or Dasukigate, is an arms procurement deal in Nigeria that resulted in the embezzlement of $2 billion through the office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Colonel Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser. The illegal deal was revealed following an interim report of the presidential investigations committee on arms procurement under the Goodluck Jonathan administration. The 1999 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on January 9, 1999. APP candidate Attahiru Bafarawa won the election, defeating PDP candidate Muhammadu Modi Yabo.

The 2008 Sokoto State gubernatorial by-election occurred on May 24, 2008. PDP candidate Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko won the election, defeating DPP Muhammed Dingyadi and other candidates.

The 2023 Sokoto State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Sokoto State, concurrent with elections to the Sokoto State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former Deputy Governor Ahmad Aliyu gained the office for the APC by a margin of ~6% over the PDP nominee — former Secretary to the State Government Saidu Umar.
