The Birmingham City Council is the legislative branch that governs the City of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It has nine members elected by district, and regularly meets on Tuesday mornings at Birmingham City Hall. The council has 11 subcommittees, each of which contains three members. [1] [2]
The council was formed in 1963, when the city adopted the Mayor-Council Act of 1955. It replaced the Birmingham City Commission, the city's previous form of government. [3] The council's current president is William Parker; the current president pro tempore is Wardine Alexander. [4]

William A. Bell Sr. is an American politician who served as the 33rd mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, from 2010 to 2017. He had previously held the office on an interim basis in 1999. Prior to that, he had served several terms on the Birmingham City Council. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Walter Thomas Maddox is an American politician who has served as the 36th mayor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, since 2005. From 2001 to 2005, he served on the Tuscaloosa City Council and as executive director of personnel for Tuscaloosa City Schools. Maddox was a field director for the Alabama Education Association from 1996 to 2001.
Jeremy Allen Moss is an American politician from Southfield, Michigan currently representing the 7th State Senate District, which includes all of Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Lake Angelus, Lathrup Village, Pontiac, Southfield, and parts of Detroit, Southfield Township, and Waterford Township. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the first openly LGBT person elected to the Michigan Senate, as well as the first to serve as President Pro Tempore. He is the first openly gay man and second openly LGBT person to serve in a statewide office in Michigan. Moss previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2014 - 2018, and remains the youngest-ever member of the Southfield City Council.

It was established by statutory instrument under the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009. It is a strategic authority with powers over transport, economic development and regeneration. The authority formally came into being on 17 June 2016.
Randall Woodfin is an American lawyer and politician who is the 34th and current mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, after winning the October 3, 2017, runoff against incumbent William A. Bell. He previously served as president of the Birmingham City School Board (2013–2015) and as a city attorney of Birmingham from 2009–2017.
Danny Garrett is a businessman and an American politician who has served District 44 in the Alabama House of Representatives since 2014. A member of the Republican Party, Garrett currently serves as the House majority whip. He represents the 44th House District in Jefferson County, which includes the cities of Trussville, Clay and portions of Pinson.
