Births, Deaths & Marriages is the second full-length studio album by Australian band 26, released in Australia on 24 May 2008 by Floodboy Records and MGM Distribution.

26 (band) Australian band

26 is an Australian musical outfit founded in 2004 by friends Nick O'Donnell and Drew Fellows (keyboardist/vocals), who later recruited Ross Duckworth (bass/vocals) and Iain Wilson (drums/vocals). Originally categorised as indie rock, 26 has since employed a variety of guest artists and choirs to produce a sound that is unique to the band.

With 26's growing popularity from the success of their first album, The King Must Die , the band toured Australia in 2006 for the release of their single "Friendly Fire", which went on to win the highly regarded 2006 Queensland Song Award for Best Rock Song, as well as being a finalist in The Courier-Mail People's Choice Awards. The single also received airplay on national youth radio network Triple J and FBI Radio in Sydney. With the release of Births, Deaths & Marriages in 2008 came the track "Aloha", which was featured on the 3 mobile phone website. This led to "Aloha" debuting at #8 on the ARIA Digital Download Charts the following week. That same week, 26 was chosen as one of only forty acts to showcase at Queensland's 2008 Big Sound Conference, one of the most respected and fastest-growing music business events in the Asia-Pacific region.

The King Must Die is the 2005 debut album by Australian indie rock band 26. It was released on compact disc format in Australia through Floodboy Records and MGM Distribution, and via digital distribution sites, such as iTunes, worldwide. At the time, the band consisted of only two members: Nick O'Donnell and Drew Fellows. O'Donnell sampled and mixed the music from his previous band, Floodboy.

Triple J Australian radio station

Triple J is a government-funded, national Australian radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting Australian content compared to commercial stations. triple j is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The album's opening track, “A New Beginning”, featured in the season finale of NBC’s Rand Ravich-created police procedural drama series, Life . [1] The episode aired in the US and Canada to more than 5,000,000 viewers on Wednesday, 8 April 2009, and aired in Australia on Network Ten on 29 April to over 776,000 viewers. The show also aired in an additional 22 countries. As a result, "A New Beginning", along with other selected tracks from 26's catalogue, went on to receive airplay on numerous US college/alternative/AAA radio stations.

NBC American television and radio network

Rand Ravich is a film and television director, writer, and producer. He wrote and directed the 1999 science fiction thriller The Astronaut's Wife, starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron. He was a producer on the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and also wrote the screenplays for the Candyman sequel Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and the 1997 movie The Maker. Ravich is the creator of the NBC television drama series Life. He was also the show's executive producer and one of the writers. He recently created the NBC thriller drama Crisis.

Network Ten Australian television network

Network 10 is an Australian commercial television network. One of five national free-to-air networks, 10's owned-and-operated stations can be found in the state capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, while affiliates extend the network to regional areas of the country. The network is owned by Ten Network Holdings, a subsidiary of CBS Studios International.

The title of Births, Deaths & Marriages stems from a series of life-changing events which impacted each individual band member in 2007 and shaped the writing of the album: frontman Nick O’Donnell's second child was born, drummer Iain Wilson's father died, the band lost a close friend to cancer, and bassist Ross Duckworth got married. Pat Wilson is an Australian singer and journalist. Wilson wrote for Go-Set, a 1960s and 1970s pop music newspaper, under the pen-name "Mummy Cool" during 1971–1972. "Eagle Rock" is an Australian rock song, released by Daddy Cool in May 1971 on the Sparmac record label. It went on to become the best-selling Australian single of the year, achieving gold status in eleven weeks, and remaining at No. 1 on the national charts for a (then) record ten weeks. "Eagle Rock" also spent 17 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Melbourne Top 40 Singles Chart. The song was re-released by Wizard Records in 1982, and reached No. 17 on the Australian singles charts.

"Under the Milky Way" is a single by Australian alternative rock band The Church, released on 15 February 1988 and appears on their fifth studio album Starfish. The song was written by bass guitarist and lead vocalist Steve Kilbey and his then-girlfriend Karin Jansson of Curious (Yellow). It peaked at No. 22 on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart, No. 24 on the United States Billboard Hot 100, No. 25 on the New Zealand Singles Chart and appeared in the Dutch Single Top 100. Whispering Jack is the twelfth studio album by Australian adult contemporary pop singer John Farnham. It was produced by Ross Fraser, and released on 20 October 1986, peaking at #1 on the Australian Kent Music Report Album Charts. Whispering Jack has become the second best-selling-album in Australia, behind Meatloaf's album Bat Out of Hell, and the highest selling album in Australia by an Australian artist - 24x platinum indicating sales of over 1.68 million copies sold. It spent 25 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Album Charts during 1986–1987, it was awarded the 1987 ARIA Award for "Album of the Year", and was the best charting album for the decade of the 1980s in Australia. It was the first Australian-made album to be released on Compact Disc within Australia. Daddy Who?... Daddy Cool is the 1971 debut album by Australian rock band Daddy Cool.

Daddy Cool is an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1970 with the original line-up of Wayne Duncan, Ross Hannaford, Ross Wilson and Gary Young. Their debut single "Eagle Rock" was released in May 1971 and stayed at number 1 on the Australian singles chart for ten weeks. Their debut July 1971 LP Daddy Who? Daddy Cool also reached number 1 and became the first Australian album to sell more than 100,000 copies. Their name is thought to have come from the 1957 song "Daddy Cool" by US rock group The Rays. Daddy Cool included their version on Daddy Who? Daddy Cool.

The Potbelleez are a three piece Irish-Australian electro-house and dance music group, which formed in 2003 as a duo by DJs Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic. In 2005 they were joined by rapper Blue MC on vocals and in 2006 by iKid on vocals. In October 2007, the group issued their breakthrough single, "Don't Hold Back", which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and, in 2011, it was certified 3× Platinum by ARIA. On 22 November 2008 their debut self-titled album was released, which reached No. 17 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Matt Ellis is an Americana genre singer-songwriter who became an indie identity of critical acclaim in his hometown of Sydney, Australia. Based in Los Angeles, California since 2005, Ellis just released his sixth album, "Rambler Pacifico".

Martha's Vineyard were an Australian rock band, formed in Perth in May 1986 by lead singer, Peggy Van Zalm. In June 1989 the group issued their debut self-titled album on rooArt, which was produced by Nick Mainsbridge. It peaked in the top 100 on the Kent Music Report Albums Chart. Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, described their sound as "reflective folk rock [which] mixed melancholy vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, gentle percussion and spacious arrangements to arrive at a harmonious and intriguing whole". They shared a similar sound and outlook to that of fellow Perth bands like The Triffids, The Honeys and Chad's Tree. Van Zalm's vocals drew positive comparisons with Patti Smith, Chrissie Hynde and Joni Mitchell. The group had toured nationally supporting Simply Red, INXS, Eurythmics, The Go-Betweens, Paul Kelly, The Triffids, Mental as Anything, The Saints and Weddings, Parties, Anything, before disbanding in 1990. By 1994 Van Zalm had launched her solo career.

<i>The Pleasure of Your Company</i> 1983 studio album by Models

The Pleasure of Your Company is the third studio album by Australian new wave rock band Models, which peaked at No. 12 on the Australian albums chart. It was released in October 1983 on Mushroom Records with Nick Launay producing. The album provided three singles, "I Hear Motion" released in September, which peaked at No. 16. Neither "No Shoulders, No Head" released in December, nor "God Bless America" released in April 1984, peaked into the Australian Top 50 singles chart. The video for "God Bless America", from March 1984, featured backing singers Kate Ceberano and Zan Abeyratne.

Gregory John Macainsh is an Australian former musician and song writer. He provided bass guitar and backing vocals for pop rockers, Skyhooks from 1973 to 1980 and subsequently for various reformations. According to Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, "Macainsh's biting, provocative songs were the perfect expression of adolescent obsessions and frustrations. With those songs, the band made an enormous impact on Australian social life." Macainsh became an intellectual property lawyer.

"Cattle and Cane" is a song by the Australian alternative rock band The Go-Betweens, released as the first single from their second album Before Hollywood. It was released as a single in the United Kingdom by Rough Trade Records in February 1983 and reached #4 on the UK Independent Chart. The single and album were both released in Australia on Stunn, a small label allied with EMI. The Stunn pressings were of poor quality and their distribution limited.

Cool Change (song) 1979 single by Little River Band

"Cool Change" is a hit song by Australian rock group Little River Band written by lead singer Glenn Shorrock. It was the second single from their sixth album, First Under the Wire. Released in August 1979, "Cool Change" did not reach the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart top 50. It was released in the United States in 1979 on the Capitol Records label and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of 19 January 1980.

Mr Floppy were an Australian alternative rock, punk rock and oi! band formed in 1989 by Tim Aylward on guitar, Mick Carroll on guitar, Paul Johnson on bass guitar and vocals and Joseph Kennedy on drums. They issued three studio albums on Zombie Penis Death Records, which were distributed by Waterfront Records, Breakfast (1991), Gratuitous (1992) and The Unbearable Lightness of Being a Dickhead (1993). They enjoyed a cult following; however, the band broke up in 1994. They were compared to TISM throughout their career, with some people actually claiming Mr Floppy were a TISM side project, although the band members hated such comparisons.
