26 (also written as 26 (The Band), [26] and 26(Twenty Six)) is an Australian musical outfit founded in 2004 by friends Nick O'Donnell (lead vocals/guitar) and Drew Fellows (keyboardist/vocals), who later recruited Ross Duckworth (bass/vocals) and Iain Wilson (drums/vocals). Originally categorised as indie rock, 26 has since employed a variety of guest artists and choirs to produce a sound that is unique to the band.

History

The band's first album, The King Must Die, was recorded by O'Donnell before he had a band [1] and was released in Australia through Floodboy Records and MGM Distribution in 2005. The album received national airplay and The King Must Die was honoured as the feature album on Sydney radio station FBI 94.5 FM's The Album Show.[ citation needed ] With the band's growing popularity, 26 toured Australia in 2006 for the release of their single, "Friendly Fire", which went on to win the 2006 Queensland Song Award for Best Rock Song [2] and was also a finalist in The Courier-Mail People's Choice Awards. [3] The single also received airplay on national youth network Triple J and further exposure on FBI 94.5 FM.

With the release of their second album, Births, Deaths & Marriages, in 2008, 26's track "Aloha" was featured on the 3 website. That same week, 26 was chosen as one of only forty acts to showcase at Queensland's 2008 Big Sound Conference, one of the most respected and fastest-growing music business events in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2010, 26 toured the US, Canada, Hong Kong and the UK, as well as performing at the MUSEXPO [4] 2010 in West Hollywood on 26 April.[ needs update ]. In August 2011, 26 returned to the northern hemisphere for an extensive national UK tour, including performances at the Y-Not Festival and the Edinburgh Festival.

26's third album, Sunshine Salvation , was released on 26 October 2012, with "The Outside" announced as the album's first single. To launch their 2012 album, Sunshine Salvation , the band played an intimate, start-to-finish pre-release show for their Brisbane-based friends, families and fans at the Black Bear Lodge in Fortitude Valley, Queensland.

The John Steel Singers were an Australian six-piece band from Brisbane, Queensland, named after a toy horse that band member Tim Morrissey named John Steel. They were formed in 2007 when Morrissey and Scott Bromiley decided to start making music together and were soon joined by Ross Chandler, Pete Bernoth, Pat McDermott and Luke McDonald. The band released an EP and a mini album independently before signing with Levi's Jeans' record label Levity and releasing another EP, In Colour. The band has had multiple tracks on rotation on Triple J, won a Triple J Unearthed competition and became the Unearthed Artist of the Year in 2008. The Medics are an Australian rock band formed in Cairns, Queensland in 2007. In April 2010 they moved to Brisbane. The band were formed by Emma Andrews, Jhindu Lawrie, Charles Thomas and Kahl Wallis. They later expanded to a five-piece with Andrew Thomson joining. Andrews left the band, reducing it back to four members. They are mentored by Lawrie's father, Coloured Stone's Bunna Lawrie.

"Bye Bye Pride" is a song by Australian alternative band The Go-Betweens that first appeared on their fifth studio album Tallulah. It was released as a 7" and 12" vinyl single on the Beggars Banquet label in the United Kingdom in August 1987, with "The House That Jack Kerouac Built" as the B-side. In Australia it was released in 1987 by True Tone Records, with "Time In The Desert" as the B-Side. "Time In The Desert" was originally released as the B-side of the band's earlier single, "Cut It Out". True Tone subsequently in 1988 re-released the single with a new B-side, "The Clarke Sisters".

Halfway is a rock band from Brisbane, Australia. The group have released eight studio albums. Their most recent album "On the Ghostline, with Hands of Lightning" was released in August, 2022 to widespread critical acclaim. Tony Moore from the Sydney Morning Herald wrote, "Ghost nets floating lost at sea are the core image as the band trap the power of memories and sing of Australian dreams and triumphs". Previous to this the band released, "Restless Dream" (2021), which was a collaboration between Halfway & First Nations Elder, Bob Weatherall. The album outlines Bob's extensive work in the Repatriation of Australian Indigenous artefacts and remains from museums and galleries around the world and was nominated at the 2021 ARIA Awards in the category of 'Best World Music Album'.

Jackie Marshall is an Australian singer-songwriter, composer, record producer and actor. While her musical training is in jazz vocals, her work is more commonly described as alt-country, folk, and rock.
