Bituin Escalante (born April 23, 1977) is a Filipina singer and actress. She is considered the Philippines' best female vocalists having been active since 2000, and notably due to the success of her Himig Handog entry "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana". [1]

Career

Before her eventual rise through Metropop and Himig Handog, Escalante has been active in the theatrical scene since 1996, and has appeared in some television shows. [1]

Discovery

Bituin rose to popularity after her first appearance in the 2000 Metropop Song Festival with her interpretation of "Paano Na", written by Arnold Reyes where she received the festival's second prize. In the following year, Bituin won awards as a new artist in the Philippine music industry.

Her 2002 song, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" written by Soc Villanueva, is the 2002 ABS-CBN Himig Handog Music Love Song Festival grand prize winner.[ citation needed ] She was also awarded Best Interpreter for this song and was later on given a platinum award for said album.[ citation needed ] She is one of the singers in ASAP.[ citation needed ]

The Metro Manila Popular Music Festival was launched by the Popular Music Foundation of the Philippines in 1977 and held annually from 1978 to 1985. It was "the country’s pioneering and once foremost songwriting competition," according to The Philippine Star. Its objective was to promote the advancement of Filipino music, and its chief proponents were journalist Teodoro Valencia and Imee Marcos. These festivals launched many the careers of songwriters and singers, and gave original Filipino music more than a few memorable and modern-day song classics. Among them is Freddie Aguilar.

Joey Albert is a Filipino singer, songwriter and lyricist. An alumna of St. Theresa's College Manila and Assumption College San Lorenzo, she began her professional singing career in 1981. In 1982, she was proclaimed winner of the Dream Girl Filipina contest on The Party, a television program hosted by Ariel Ureta over the now-defunct Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation. Albert became a member of The New Minstrels, a popular Philippine show band during the 1970s and the 1980s. The digital album was made available for download on mymusicstore.com.ph on January 8, 2013, while on iTunes and Amazon on January 11. The physical album was released on January 17. The acoustic version was later included on his first studio album DJP and Best of ABS-CBN Summer Songs. The music video of the song was released on February 4, 2013.

The song reached the finals of the competition but did not receive an award. Nevertheless, it became a popular ballad in the Philippines. It was released as a bonus track on Morissette's 2015 eponymous debut album.
