Black Cat is a 13-issue comic book series published by Marvel Comics between June 5, 2019 and August 5, 2020. Created by writer Jed MacKay and artist Travel Foreman, it is the first ongoing solo series starring the popular Spider-Man love interest Felicia Hardy / Black Cat, following the thief as she finds herself on the run not only from the police, but also by the New York Theives' Guild and their boss Odessa Drake.

The series received generally positive reviews from comic critics, and was followed by a relaunch in December 2020, still written by MacKay.

Publication history

The first Black Cat ongoing series written by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Travel Foreman, Michael Dowling, Joey Vazquez, Natacha Bustos, Juan Gedeon, Dike Ruan, Kris Anka, and Carlos Villa, debuted in June 2019. [1] [2] MacKay describing the premise of the series as "We're meeting Felicia fresh as she gets drawn into a big and daring new scheme, but we're also digging into some unknown history—who put her on the thief's life, the connection between the Hardy family and the Drake clan, and how that past will tumble into Felicia's future.". [3] In August 2020, it was announced that the book would go on hiatus after its twelfth issue in August 2020, leading into the crossover event "King in Black", [4] with the series subsequently relaunching in December as part of a tie-in with said event. [5]

Critical reception

According to Diamond Comic Distributors, Black Cat #1 was the best selling comic book in June 2019, with over 250 000 sold units. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] Black Cat #1 was the 4th best selling comic book of 2019. [12]
