Blake Harrell (born October 20, 1979) is an American football coach who is currently the interim head coach for the East Carolina Pirates.
From 2001 through 2019, Harrell had various coaching positions as an assistant coach at Western Carolina, McDowell High School, Fuquay-Varina High School, Franklin High School, Lenoir-Rhyne, The Citadel, and Kennesaw State. [1] [2] [3] On January 28, 2020, Harrell was hired by the East Carolina Pirates as the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. [4] On October 20, 2024, After former East Carolina head coach Mike Houston was fired, Harrell was named the team's interim head coach. [5] [6]

Harold Wade Phillips is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL). He has served as head coach of the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Roughnecks. He has also served as interim head coach for the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and the Houston Texans. Additionally, Phillips has long been considered to be among the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. In his long career, he has served as defensive coordinator in eight separate stints with seven different franchises. Multiple players under Phillips' system have won Defensive Player of the Year: Reggie White, Bryce Paup, Bruce Smith, J. J. Watt and Aaron Donald. Others under Phillips have won Defensive Rookie of the Year: Mike Croel and Shawne Merriman. In Phillips' lone Super Bowl victory, a defensive player would be named Super Bowl MVP: Von Miller.
Romeo Crennel is a former American football coach. A former long-time coaching assistant to Bill Parcells, Crennel served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2005 to 2008 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, as well an assistant coach for six NFL teams and four collegiate teams. He has over 50 years of coaching experience, which has included consistently being employed as a coach for all but two seasons since 1970, only taking the 2009 and 2013 seasons off following both of his tenures as a permanent head coach. He has five Super Bowl wins as assistant coach, two with the New York Giants and three with the New England Patriots.

Louis Leo "Skip" Holtz Jr. is an American football coach who is the head coach for the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL). Ruffin Horne McNeill Jr. is an American football coach and former player who currently serves as the special assistant to the head coach at NC State University. He previously served as the assistant head coach and outside linebackers coach at the University of Oklahoma and the assistant head coach and defensive line coach at the University of Virginia. McNeill also served as the head coach of the East Carolina Pirates from 2010 to 2015. Before being named head coach of the Pirates, McNeill served the Texas Tech Red Raiders as an interim head coach, assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, and linebackers coach. On December 28, 2009, he was named interim head coach of the Red Raiders following the suspension and later firing of head coach Mike Leach. He served in the position until the hiring of Tommy Tuberville, who subsequently released him as defensive coordinator.
The 1973 East Carolina Pirates football team was an American football team that represented East Carolina University as a member of the Southern Conference during the 1973 NCAA Division I football season. In their third season under head coach Sonny Randle, the team compiled a 9–2 record.
Blake Robert Anderson is an American football coach and former player who most recently served as the head coach at Utah State University from 2021 to 2023. He was previously the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at the University of Notre Dame and the offensive coordinator at West Virginia University. Parker played as a wide receiver at the University of Kentucky from 2000 to 2004 for head coaches Hal Mumme, Guy Morriss, and Rich Brooks. He served as the interim head coach at Purdue University for six games in 2016.

The Pirates, led by third-year head coach Scottie Montgomery, played their home games at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, and were members of the East Division in the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 3–9, 1–7 in AAC play to finish in fifth place in the East Division.
Donnie Kirkpatrick is an American football coach. He was formerly the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at East Carolina University. He served two stints at East Carolina, having served as the wide receivers coach at ECU from 2005 to 2015 and then the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2019 to 2023. Kirkpatrick served as head football coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for three seasons, from 2000 to 2002. His coaching career has also included stops at Appalachian State, South Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Louisville, Western Carolina, and James Madison.
David Blackwell is an American football coach who is currently the defensive tackles coach at the University of Missouri, a position he has held since 2023. He was previously the defensive coordinator at Old Dominion University and East Carolina University, serving as the interim head coach for the latter in 2018 after the termination of Scottie Montgomery and the defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech University from 2020 to 2021.

The Pirates were led by Mike Houston in his sixth year as the head coach for the team's first seven games. The Pirates play home games at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, located in Greenville, North Carolina.
The 2024 American Athletic Conference football season is the 33rd NCAA Division I FBS Football season of the American Athletic Conference. It will be the 12th season since the former Big East Conference dissolved and became the American Athletic Conference and the 10th season of the College Football Playoff in place. The American is considered a member of the Group of Five (G5) together with Conference USA, the MAC, Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. The conference will have 14 football members for the 2024–25 season.
