Blanchard Island is an island in the Mississippi River between the U.S. states of Illinois and Iowa at 41°21′17″N91°03′45″W / 41.35472°N 91.06250°W / 41.35472; -91.06250 Coordinates: 41°21′17″N91°03′45″W / 41.35472°N 91.06250°W / 41.35472; -91.06250 . Most of the island lies within Drury Township, in Rock Island County, but its southern extremity lies in Eliza Township, Mercer County. The island is one of the more popular recreation sites along the Upper Mississippi River between Petosi, Wisconsin, and Saverton, Missouri.^[1]

An island or isle is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, and a small island off the coast may be called a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago, such as the Philippines.

The Mississippi River is the second-longest river and chief river of the second-largest drainage system on the North American continent, second only to the Hudson Bay drainage system. Its source is Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota and it flows generally south for 2,320 miles (3,730 km) to the Mississippi River Delta in the Gulf of Mexico. With its many tributaries, the Mississippi's watershed drains all or parts of 32 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces between the Rocky and Appalachian mountains. The main stem is entirely within the United States; the total drainage basin is 1,151,000 sq mi (2,980,000 km²), of which only about one percent is in Canada. The Mississippi ranks as the fourth-longest and fifteenth-largest river by discharge in the world. The river either borders or passes through the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

In the United States, a state is a constituent political entity, of which there are currently 50. Bound together in a political union, each state holds governmental jurisdiction over a separate and defined geographic territory and shares its sovereignty with the federal government. Due to this shared sovereignty, Americans are citizens both of the federal republic and of the state in which they reside. State citizenship and residency are flexible, and no government approval is required to move between states, except for persons restricted by certain types of court orders. Four states use the term commonwealth rather than state in their full official names.

Chouteau Island, situated approximately eight miles (13 km) due north of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri, and approximately one mile (1.6 km) south of the confluence of the Missouri River and Mississippi River, is one of a cluster of three islands: Chouteau Island, Gabaret Island, and Mosenthein Island. The three, with a combined area of approximately 5,500 acres (20 km²), are located in Madison County, Illinois. The three-island complex is also referred to as "Chouteau Island". The island is manmade, having been created during the construction of the Chain of Rocks Canal between 1946 and 1953. Most of Chouteau Island lies in Chouteau Township, but its southern quarter lies in Venice Township, both in Madison County. Gabaret Island and Mosenthein Island both lie entirely in Venice Township.

Momence Township is one of seventeen townships in Kankakee County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,820 and it contained 1,655 housing units. Locally Port Byron has six bars and restaurants from fine dining to burgers and chili. Located 2 miles north of the Interstate 80 bridge over the Mississippi River on Illinois route 84, Port Byron is also on the Mississippi River Flyway for migrating birds. Thousands of species can be seen as they travel from Canada to the Gulf Coast espiecally the Pelicans in summer and the Eagles in winter.

Colona Township is one of twenty-four townships in Henry County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,822 and it contained 2,773 housing units. Colona Township changed its name from Green River Township on April 13, 1857.

Lynn Township is one of twenty-four townships in Henry County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 745 and it contained 311 housing units.
