Originally Blankenbach means as much as blinking brook. The stream gave its name to the municipality Blankenbach.
The Blankenbach springs from Fallborn, between Eichenberg[de] (Sailauf) and Blankenbach. It runs through a ravine in a north-westerly direction to Kleinblankenbach (a community of Blankenbach). In front of the sports field it flows into a piping. Below the bridge Kahlbrücke, opposite the railway station of the railway Kahlgrundbahn[de], it flows into the Kahl.

The name Kahl comes from the Old High German word kaldaha, which means cool and clear. The Kahl rises from two sources left and right of the road at the foot of the Spessart hills, near Kleinkahl. These springs produce 50–60 litres per second. The Kahl flows into the river Main in Kahl am Main. The mouth is near the old Kahl Nuclear Power Plant. The largest tributaries are Westerbach, Sommerkahl, Reichenbach and Geiselbach.
The Geiselbach is a right tributary of the Kahl in the northern Spessart in Bavaria and Hesse, Germany. It is 5,2 km (3,2 mi) long and begins at the confluence of multiple headstreams in Geiselbach. The largest tributary is the Omersbach. It discharges near the Teufelsmühle. The Geiselbach flows through the Teufelsgrund to Hüttelngesäß and forms the border between Hesse and Bavaria. Near the village Brücken it empties into the Kahl.
