Yaoi,also known as boys' love and its abbreviation BL,is a genre of fictional media originating in Japan that features homoerotic relationships between male characters. In Japanese popular culture,lolicon is a genre of fictional media which focuses on young girl characters,particularly in a sexually suggestive or erotic manner. The term,a portmanteau of the English words "Lolita" and "complex",also refers to desire and affection for such characters,and fans of such characters and works. Trinity Blood is a series of Japanese light novels written by Sunao Yoshida with illustrations by Thores Shibamoto and originally serialized in The Sneaker. Set 900 years after an apocalyptic war between humans and vampires,the series focuses on the ongoing cold war between the Vatican,the human government,and the "New Human Empire",the government of the vampiric Methuselah. Fighting on the Vatican's side is Abel Nightroad,a Crusnik—a vampire that feeds on vampires. The novels blend science fiction,fantasy,and political intrigue,with some in the Vatican and the Empire striving for peace,and the Rosen Kreuz Order doing anything in its power to stop it.
Hellsing is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. It was serialized in Shōnen Gahōsha's seinen manga magazine Young King OURs from April 1997 to September 2008,with its chapters collected in ten tankōbon volumes. The series chronicles the efforts of the mysterious and secret Hellsing Organization as it combats vampires,ghouls,and other supernatural foes who threaten England. The series was licensed for English language release in North America by Dark Horse Comics. From 2002 to 2006,Hirano released a six-chapter prequel series,Hellsing:The Dawn,in Young King OURs Zōkan.
Man's Best Friend is an explicit yaoi manga by Kazusa Takashima,and is published in English by Blu Manga,a now-defunct boys' love publishing division of Tokyopop.
The yaoi fandom consists of the readers of yaoi,a genre of male homosexual narratives. Individuals in the yaoi fandom may attend conventions,maintain/post to fansites,create fanfiction/fanart,etc. In the mid-1990s,estimates of the size of the Japanese yaoi fandom were at 100,000–500,000 people. Despite increased knowledge of the genre among the general public,readership remained limited in 2008. English-language fan translations of From Eroica with Love circulated through the slash fiction community in the 1980s,forging a link between slash fiction fandom and yaoi fandom.
Rosario + Vampire is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akihisa Ikeda. The story revolves around Tsukune Aono,a boy who inadvertently enrolls in a boarding school for monsters. He quickly befriends Moka Akashiya,a vampire who soon develops an obsession with his blood,and later meets other monster girls who soon take a romantic liking to him. The manga was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shonen Jump from April 2004 to June 2007,when the magazine ceased its publication. An extra chapter was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump in September 2007. The chapters were collected in ten tankōbon volumes.
Voice or Noise is a yaoi manga series by Yamimaru Enjin,author of the one-shot manga The Way To Heaven and illustrator of the novel Eat or Be Eaten. It was serialized in the magazine Chara by Tokuma Shoten from 2003 to 2015 and collected into six volumes. The story focuses on the relationship between a junior high school student,Shinichiro,and a college professor,Narusawa,both of whom have the ability to speak to animals.
Yozakura Quartet is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. It has been serialized in Kodansha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Sirius since January 2006,with its chapters collected in 30 tankōbon volumes as of December 2022. In North America,the manga was first licensed by Del Rey Manga,and later by Kodansha USA for a digital-only release.
Bara is a colloquialism for a genre of Japanese art and media known within Japan as gay manga (ゲイ漫画) or gei komi. The genre focuses on male same-sex love,as created primarily by gay men for a gay male audience. Bara can vary in visual style and plot,but typically features masculine men with varying degrees of muscle,body fat,and body hair,akin to bear or bodybuilding culture. While bara is typically pornographic,the genre has also depicted romantic and autobiographical subject material,as it acknowledges the varied reactions to homosexuality in modern Japan.

Suzuhito Yasuda is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator. He is known as the creator of Yozakura Quartet and for illustrating the light novel series Durarara!! and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?,all of which have been adapted into anime series. He is also the character designer for the Shin Megami Tensei:Devil Survivor video game series and Digimon Story:Cyber Sleuth.
Mission:Yozakura Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hitsuji Gondaira. It has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since August 2019,with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volumes as of April 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Silver Link premiered in April 2024.
