Bloodlet are an American metalcore band from Orlando, Florida that formed in 1992. Their style of music (which has sometimes been dubbed as "evilcore" by critics) [1] [2] features elements of metalcore [2] and sludge metal, which has been noted for influencing the 1990s underground hardcore scene. [3]

History

Bloodlet began by releasing a demo tape and a few 7-inches during the early portion of their career, including an EP on Canadian band Chokehold's record label Structure Records. [4] They also collaborated with Damnation A.D. under the name Bloodnation to contribute to a compilation, [5] the group were signed onto Victory Records, who issued the band's debut Entheogen in 1996. After extensive touring, the group's second album The Seraphim Fall was issued in 1998, and the group quietly entered a hiatus. [3]

Bloodlet later reunited in 2001, and issue their third album Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees, which was released in 2002. The album was engineered by Steve Albini and was recorded at his Electrical Audio recording studio. [6] A music video was produced for "Holy Rollin Homicide", and the group would disband once more a year later. In April 2002, the band toured with As Friends Rust and Hotwire. [7] [8] [9]

In 2014, the group would reform for a special one-off performance at the A389 Recordings' 10th anniversary festival, performing with groups such as Integrity and Infest. [10] That same year the label also issued a double-LP reissue of Entheogen, [11] a limited edition live album, [12] and a limited edition 5" of a rare outtake titled "Embrace". The song was recorded in 1994, and was forgotten until a hardcore blog made a post about it years later. [13]

In 2017, the group made an appearance for This Is Hardcore 2017. [14] Since then, the band has been active and have toured locally in Florida and around the country. [15]

<i>Petitioning the Empty Sky</i> 1996 studio album / compilation album by Converge

Petitioning the Empty Sky is the second studio album by American metalcore band Converge. However, contrary to many sources, the band considers this a compilation album, being a collection of songs recorded at different times. While tracklists differ between releases, this album features studio recorded tracks along with live recordings of three songs. Petitioning the Empty Sky was released and distributed through several different labels beginning in the mid 90s.

Chokehold is a Canadian vegan straight edge hardcore punk band from Hamilton, Ontario. They were active from 1990 to 1996, and came together again for a reunion tour in 2015, and five dates in Japan in September 2016. They released their third album in 2019.

As Friends Rust is an American melodic hardcore band based in Gainesville, Florida. The original line-up, which included vocalist Damien Moyal, guitarist Henry Olmino, bass guitarist Jeronimo Gomez and drummer Matthew Crum, formed in Davie, Florida in September 1996. After recording a demo tape but failing to secure a record deal, the band parted ways in February 1997.

The band was originally from Cooper City, Florida, but moved to Coral Springs in 1998 before breaking up later that year. After playing several reunion shows over the years, the band released a new EP in 2018.

Their debut album, Madre Mia Gracias Por Los Dias (2010) was released through A389 Recordings. Their second album, Hasta La Muerte (2012), was released by Southern Lord.

<i>Greatest Hits?</i> 2014 compilation album by As Friends Rust

Greatest Hits? is a compilation album by American melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust. It was originally released on compact disc by Japanese record label Cosmic Note on June 4, 2014. Indonesian record label D'Kolektif released the compilation on compact cassette on December 27, 2014. Dutch record label Shield Recordings re-issued the compact disc and issued a 12-inch vinyl and digital editions for the European market on April 29, 2015, though this version omitted three songs due to vinyl time constraints.

Joseph Lee Simmons is an American guitarist, bass guitarist, songwriter and brewer. Originally from Houston, Texas, Simmons grew up in Coral Springs, Florida, where he notably played in the hardcore punk bands Dinner Time and Lock Down, the sludge metal band Bird of Ill Omen and the metallic hardcore band Morning Again. He later moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he played in the metallic hardcore bands Culture and Some Sort of Radio, the melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust, and the emotional hardcore / post-hardcore band Salem. He currently plays in the black metal band Rot in Coffins.
