Robert Joseph Leeper (born December 8,1958) is an American independent politician and chiropractor. He was a member of the Kentucky State Senate from 1991 to 2015 retiring to run for McCracken County Judge-Executive. [1] [2] In 2014,he was elected Judge-Executive of McCracken County,but chose not to seek reelection in 2018. [3]
Leeper attended Paducah Community College and Sherman College of Chiropractic. [4]
Prior to serving in the Kentucky State Senate,Leeper was a city commissioner in Paducah. [5]
Originally a Democrat,Leeper joined the Republican Party in 1999,and became a political independent later in 2005. Leeper has been described as an "ultra-conservative independent",and was known in the legislature for his opposition to expanded gambling. [6] In 2012,he mounted an unsuccessful candidacy to serve as president of the Kentucky State Senate. [7] He decided against re-election in 2014 and ran for McCracken County Judge-Executive.
In 2014,Leeper was elected Judge-Executive of McCracken County. [8] In 2018,he faced criticism over the termination of Paducah Economic Development president and CEO Scott Darnell,and issued a statement saying he would not answer questions about the matter. [9] He did not seek reelection in 2018. [3]
In 2020,he was honored with the opening of the Bob Leeper Bridge,a 110-foot pedestrian bridge in McCracken County. [3]
McCracken County is a county located in the far west portion of U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census,the population was 67,875. The county seat and only municipality is Paducah. McCracken County was the 78th county formed in the state,having been created in 1825. It is part of the historic Jackson Purchase,territory sold by the Chickasaw people to General Andrew Jackson and Governor Isaac Shelby;this territory was located at the extreme western end of Kentucky.

Julian Morton Carroll was an American lawyer and politician from the state of Kentucky. A Democrat,he served as the 54th governor of Kentucky from 1974 to 1979,succeeding Wendell H. Ford,who resigned to accept a seat in the U.S. Senate. He was most recently a member of the Kentucky Senate,representing Anderson,Franklin,Woodford,Gallatin,and Owen counties. He was the first Kentucky governor from the state's far-western Jackson Purchase region. Thelma Stovall,who served as lieutenant governor with him,was the first woman to be elected lieutenant governor of Kentucky.
Paul Edward Patton is an American politician who served as the 59th governor of Kentucky from 1995 to 2003. Because of a 1992 amendment to the Kentucky Constitution,he was the first governor eligible to run for a second term in office,since James Garrard,in 1800. Since 2013,he has been the chancellor of the University of Pikeville in Pikeville,Kentucky,after serving as its president from 2010 to 2013. The 2015 Kentucky gubernatorial election took place on November 3,2015. Incumbent Democratic governor Steve Beshear was ineligible to run for a third term due to term limits. Primary elections were held on May 19,2015.
McCracken County High School is a public secondary school located west of Paducah,Kentucky that opened on August 9,2013. Operated by the McCracken County Public Schools district,it consolidates that district's three former high schools—Heath,Lone Oak,and Reidland. Before ground was broken for the new school in June 2010,the school's nickname of Mustangs and colors of crimson,black,and white had been finalized. The school opened with an enrollment of slightly under 1,900.
