The Victorian Football League (VFL) is the major state-level Australian rules football league in Victoria and, starting from 2021, New South Wales and Queensland. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and has been known by its current name since 1996. For historical purposes, the present VFL is sometimes referred to as the VFA/VFL, to distinguish it from the present day Australian Football League, which was known until 1990 as the Victorian Football League and is sometimes referred to as the VFL/AFL.
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent and only fully professional men's competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. The season commenced with the first games played on Saturday, 28 March, and concluded with the 1981 VFL Grand Final on Saturday, 26 September.

The 1907 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Carlton Football Club and South Melbourne Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 21 September 1907. It was the 10th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1907 VFL season. The match, attended by 45,477 spectators, was won by reigning premiers Carlton by a margin of 5 points, marking that club's second premiership victory and second in succession.
The Australian Football League stages the highest-level senior Australian rules football competition in the country. However, since the late 1980s, when the former Victorian Football League expanded interstate to become the modern Australian Football League, there has not been a league-wide reserves competition; and, since 2000, there has been no dedicated reserves competition of any kind. Robert William Sandeman Strachan was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After attending Scotch College in Melbourne, Strachan joined Collingwood in 1904. Between 1904 and 1910 he played 52 VFL matches, including the 1905 Grand Final. Strachan died in Marble Bar, Western Australia in June 1927 after the fuel tank in his car exploded.
Melissa Hickey is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club and the Geelong Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She served as Geelong captain in the club's first two AFL Women's seasons. She also played in the Victorian Women's Football League/VFL Women's for eleven seasons, representing the St Albans Spurs, Darebin and Geelong. In the VWFL/VFLW, Hickey won seven premierships, represented Victoria on three occasions and featured in the VFL Women's team of the year.
Kieran Strachan is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Strachan was selected with the 7th pick in the 2018 rookie draft.
