The North Sydney Bears are an Australian rugby league football club based on Sydney's North Shore. The club competes in the NSW Cup, having exited the National Rugby League following the 1999 NRL season after 90 years in the premier rugby league competition in Australia. There have been on-going bids to resurrect the club in the NRL as either The Bears, based in Perth and Sydney, or as the Central Coast Bears, based at Gosford. However, as of November 2024, the bid to be based Perth is the Favourite. However, the bid is partnership and not officially considered a relocation. The North Sydney Bears are expected to keep their headquarters in Cammeray, or at least on Sydney’s North Shore
Michael Sullivan is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s. He played in the NRL for the Northern Eagles, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Canterbury-Bankstown, as well as in the Super League for the Warrington Wolves, usually as a hooker.
Reginald William "Reg" Gasnier was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He played centre for the St. George Dragons from 1959 to 1967 and represented Australia in a then record 36 Tests and three World Cup games. He was the captain of the national side on eight occasions between 1962 and 1967.

Kenneth John Irvine, also nicknamed "Mongo", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He holds the standing Australian record for the most tries in a first-grade career – 212. No other player has yet managed 200 tries in their Australian club career, with the closest to Irvine's tally being South Sydney Rabbitohs player Alex Johnston who has scored 195 tries. He is also the 2nd all-time top try-scorer for the Australian national team with 33, two behind Darren Lockyer's 35. Irvine's great speed is legendary and he is regarded as Australia's greatest ever winger, being named in 2008 in the list of Australian rugby league's 100 greatest players, as well as being an automatic selection for the Australian Rugby League's "Team of the Century".
Gary Larson is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played as a lock, prop and second-row forward in the 1980s and 1990s.
Billy Wilson was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. An Australia national and New South Wales state representative front-row forward, he captained the national team in two Tests against New Zealand in 1963 and captained-coached several of his club sides during a record length top-grade career over twenty seasons from 1948 to 1967. Much of his New South Wales Rugby League premiership career was spent with Sydney's St. George club where he was a pivotal member for the first half of that club's 11-year consecutive premiership run from 1956. Billy Wilson won six consecutive premierships with the Dragons between 1956 and 1962.
Sid Deane was a foundation Australian rugby league player. He was a centre for the Australia national team. He played in five Tests between 1908 and 1914. In 1914 he became the ninth Australian national captain and the first from the North Sydney Club.
Geoffrey Toovey, also known by the nickname of "Toovs" or "Tooves", is the former head coach of the Bradford Bulls and former professional rugby league footballer. Toovey played halfback for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, then played as a hooker later in his career at the Northern Eagles. He played 286 first-grade matches in all, and captained Manly to the 1996 ARL premiership and the 1995 and 1997 grand finals. He played in 13 international matches for Australia between 1991 and 1998. Toovey is the former head coach of Manly-Warringah.
Cliff Lyons is an indigenous Australian former international rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. A Clive Churchill Medallist and two-time Dally M Medallist, he made 309 first-grade appearances with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, winning grand finals with them in 1987 and 1996. Lyons also represented New South Wales and Australia, being part of the successful 1990 Kangaroo Tour of Great Britain and France.
Kerry Boustead is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the late 1970’s, 1980’s, & early 1990’s. A talented representative wing for Queensland and Australia, at the time he was picked for the national team he was the youngest ever player so selected. A prolific try-scorer, he has been named amongst the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century.
Greg Hawick was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. A fine utility back for the champion South Sydney Rabbitohs teams in the 1950s and a representative player in the Australian national side, he was named at five-eighth in an Australian 1950s rugby league team of the decade.
Cornelius Patrick Sullivan was a New Zealand-born rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s and represented New Zealand, Australia, and Australasia.
Mervyn John Lees (1932-2018) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s. He was a premiership-winning centre with the St George Dragons and a state representative.
Robert W. "Bob" Batty was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. A prolific goal kicking Fullback, Batty played his entire career with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership.
Peter O'Brien (1928-2016) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney as a winger.
Cyril McMahon nicknamed "Kelly" was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney and Manly-Warringah as a five-eighth.
Don Evenden (1931-2018) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney and Balmain as a prop.
Alf Faull (1896–1966) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s and 1920s. He played his entire career in the NSWRFL premiership for North Sydney. He was the cousin of Cec Waters who played 145 games for North Sydney in the 1940s and 1950s and Lloyd Hudson who represented New South Wales and played for Norths also in the 1950s.
