Robert April III is an American football coach who is currently the outside linebackers coach for the Wisconsin Badgers and the incoming Defensive Coordinator for the Stanford Cardinal Football team. [1]

Coaching career

College career

April III began his coaching career in 2004 as a student assistant for the Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. [2] He then became a graduate assistant for the Tulane Green Wave from 2005 to 2006. [2] In 2007, April III became the special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the Portland State Vikings through 2009. [3] In 2010, he was special teams coordinator and safeties coach for the Nicholls State Colonels. [4] [5]

In 2018, April III returned to college football as outside linebackers coach for the Wisconsin Badgers. [2] [3]

Professional career

April III was defensive quality control coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2011 to 2012. [6] [7] In 2013, April III moved to the New York Jets as defensive quality control coach and assistant linebacker coach. [7] In 2014, he was promoted to linebackers coach with the Jets. [8] In 2015, April III moved with Rex Ryan from the Jets to the Buffalo Bills and continued to serve as linebackers coach through 2016. [6] [9]

Personal life

April earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Louisiana-Lafayette. [7] He is the son of Bobby April Jr., a former NFL and college special teams coordinator. [7]

Bielema served as the head football coach at of the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 2006 to 2012, achieving a 68–24 record and taking them to three straight Rose Bowl Games, although they lost each time. He was the head football coach at University of Arkansas from 2013 to 2017, tallying a mark of 29–34. Babich was the head football coach at North Dakota State University from 1997 to 2002, compiling a career record of 46–22. He played college football as a linebacker at the University of Tulsa in the early 1980s.

James Herrmann is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the defensive coordinator for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL and was recently the defensive coordinator for the New York Guardians of the XFL. Prior to that, he was linebackers coach for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) and the Bowling Green Falcons football team. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 1980 to 1982 and served as an assistant football coach at Michigan from 1985 to 2005, including nine years as defensive coordinator from 1997 to 2005. After the 1997 Michigan Wolverines football team won the national championship, Herrmann received the Frank Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in the nation. He also served as the New York Jets' linebackers coach from 2006 to 2008. Herrmann will become the Defensive Coordinator for XFL San Antonio starting in 2023.

Bobby Babich is an American football coach and former player, who is currently the linebackers coach for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football as a cornerback at North Dakota State University in the early 2000s.
