Each nation could send a maximum of 6 athletes (3 boys and 3 girls). The FIBT ranking were used to allocate places to NOC's. Participation, for each of the men's and women's competitions, was limited to a total of 15 athletes each, including the host nation. The NOC quotas were based on the updated FIBT ranking. Qualification was achieved by the results of athletes, who gained a qualification place for their NOC. Male and female athletes of non represented continents also participated, with 1 male and 1 female athlete, provided that the maximum quota of 15 men and 15 women was not yet filled. Athletes must also meet eligibility criteria, which is explained in detail in the qualification system. [2]

Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which a person rides a small sled, known as a skeleton bobsled, down a frozen track while lying face down and head-first. The sport and the sled may have been named from the bony appearance of the sled.
The 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, officially known as the II Winter Youth Olympic Games, took place in and around Lillehammer, Norway, between 12 February and 21 February 2016. They were the fourth Youth Olympic Games and the second winter edition. Lillehammer was awarded the games on 7 December 2011 as the only candidate. The games reused venues from the 1994 Winter Olympics; this made Lillehammer the first city to host both regular and Youth Olympics. In addition to Lillehammer, sports were contested in Hamar, Gjøvik and Øyer.
The skeleton competition of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was held at Whistler Sliding Centre. The events were held between the 18 and 19 February 2010. This event was expanded to four runs over two days beginning at these Olympic Games.
Skeleton at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics was held at the Olympic Sliding Centre Innsbruck in Igls, Innsbruck, Austria on 16 January. The competition had a boys' and a girls' event.

The women's monobob competition in bobsleigh at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 13 February and 14 February, at the Xiaohaituo Bobsleigh and Luge Track in Yanqing District of Beijing. This was the inaugural monobob competition at the Olympics. Kaillie Humphries of the United States won the event. She was the 2018 two-woman bobsleigh champion, but at that time she represented Canada. Elana Meyers Taylor, also of the United States, won the silver medal, and Christine de Bruin of Canada bronze, her first Olympic medal.
Bobsleigh at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics will take place from 22 to 23 January 2024 at the Alpensia Sliding Centre, Daegwallyeong-myeon, South Korea.
