Bonga Nkanyiso Mdletshe (born 15 May 1955 - died 2024) was a South African politician and traditional leader who represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1996 to 2014. During this period,he served as Speaker in the legislature from 1998 to 2004. A lawyer by training,he entered politics during apartheid as a member of the government of the former bantustan of KwaZulu.
Mdletshe was born on 15 May 1955 and matriculated in 1975 at King Bhekuzulu College in Natal province. [1] He worked as a clerk in the offices of the Hlabisa magistrate from 1976 to 1986. In 1987,he took up office as Inkosi of the Mdletshe tribe in Hlabisa,a lifetime appointment. [1] In this capacity he represented Hlabisa in the KwaZulu Legislative Assembly in 1992,and he also served as Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services in the KwaZulu government from 1992 until the government was dissolved upon the end of apartheid in 1994. [1] He earned his BJuris degree from the University of Zululand in 1996. [1]
Mdletshe joined the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in 1996,representing the IFP. From 1998 [1] until 2004, [2] he served as Speaker in the legislature. He continued to serve as an ordinary Member of the Provincial Legislature thereafter and was re-elected to his final term in the legislature in the 2009 general election,ranked seventh on the IFP's provincial party list. [3] During the legislative term that followed,he served as the IFP's provincial shadow minister for cooperative governance. [4] In the next general election in 2014,he was ranked 14th on the IFP's party list and did not gain election to one of the nine seats won by the party in the election. [2]
The Inkatha Freedom Party is a right-wing political party in South Africa. Although registered as a national party,it has had only minor electoral success outside its home province of KwaZulu-Natal. Mangosuthu Buthelezi,who served as chief minister of KwaZulu during the Apartheid period,founded the party in 1975 and led it until 2019. He was succeeded as party president in 2019 by Velenkosini Hlabisa.
The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature is the primary legislative body of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. It is unicameral in its composition and elects the premier and the provincial cabinet from among the leading party or coalition members in the parliament.
The 35th Inkatha Freedom Party National General Conference was held from 23 to 25 August 2019 to elect the new leadership of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). The previous elective conference was held in 2012. Party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi had announced his intention to retire after serving in the position for more than forty-four years. He was the party's inaugural president. It was understood that the party's IFP Extended National Council favoured the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature,Velenkosini Hlabisa,to succeed him as party president. Hlabisa was elected unopposed.
Velenkosini Fiki Hlabisa is a South African politician and former teacher who has been President of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) since 2019 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2023. He is the party's parliamentary leader. He previously served as the Secretary-General of the IFP from 2011 to 2017,as the Mayor of the Big Five Hlabisa Local Municipality from 2016 to 2019 and as the Leader of the Opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature between 2019 and 2023.
Bonginkosi Meshack Radebe is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature until May 2019. He was formerly Deputy Speaker in the legislature and also served as a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in KwaZulu-Natal from 2009 to 2014. He was known for his role in mediating the political violence between the ANC and Inkatha in Mpumalanga,KwaZulu-Natal in the 1990s.
Keith Muntuwenkosi "Musa" Zondi is a South African politician who served as Deputy Minister of Public Works from 2001 to 2004. He represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Council of Provinces from 1994 to 1999 and in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2012. He served as the party's secretary-general and was widely touted as a possible successor to IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi before he resigned from his party office and legislative seat in February 2012.

Inkosi Mhlabunzima Wellington Hlengwa was a South African politician and Zulu traditional leader who served as Deputy Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature until his death in March 2005. Before assuming that office in 2004,Hlengwa represented his political party,the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP),in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004. He was also the chief of KwaThoyana Tribal Authority near Umbumbulu in eThekwini,KwaZulu-Natal,a position to which he was appointed in 1988.
Faith Xolile Gasa is a South African politician who was KwaZulu-Natal's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education and Culture from August 2000 to June 2001. She represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 1995 and in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1995 until her death in 2005. A teacher by profession,she was also a former chairperson of the IFP Women's Brigade.
Lindumusa Bekizitha Gabriel Ndabandaba is a retired South African politician and academic who served in the National Assembly and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2014. He represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) until 2003,when he crossed the floor to the African National Congress (ANC).
Velaphi Bethuel Ndlovu is a South African politician from KwaZulu-Natal. He represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Assembly and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature for two decades from 1994 to 2014. During apartheid,he was a member of the KwaZulu Legislative Assembly,serving the Imbali constituency. He is also a former deputy chairperson of the IFP.

Lindiwe Rosebud Mbuyazi is a South African politician who represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) coming from the education department as a school teacher,principal and National teachers Union Activist(NATU).She was also a party Whip in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004,serving the KwaZulu-Natal constituency. After that,she was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature 2004-2009.
