Anthony Charles Sousa is a Canadian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament from Mississauga-Lakeshore since December 12,2022. Victor AnthonyFedeli is a Canadian politician who has been the Ontario minister of economic development,job creation and trade since 2019 and chair of Cabinet since 2018. Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) is a Crown corporation and "government business enterprise" that is responsible for approximately half of the electricity generation in the province of Ontario,Canada. It is wholly owned by the government of Ontario. Sources of electricity include nuclear,hydroelectric,wind,gas and biomass. Although Ontario has an open electricity market,the provincial government,as OPG's sole shareholder,regulates the price the company receives for its electricity to be less than the market average,in an attempt to stabilize prices. Lennox Generating Station is a natural gas- and fuel oil-fired power station in Lennox and Addington County,Ontario,Canada. The 2014 Ontario general election was held on June 12,2014,to elect the members of the 41st Parliament of Ontario. The Liberal Party won a majority of seats in the legislature,allowing its leader,Kathleen Wynne,to continue as premier,moving from a minority to majority government. This was the Liberals' fourth consecutive win since 2003 and an improvement from their performance in the 2011 election. The Progressive Conservatives under Tim Hudak were returned to the official opposition;following the election loss,Hudak announced his resignation as Progressive Conservative leader. The New Democratic Party under Andrea Horwath remained in third place,albeit with an improved share of the popular vote.
The Auditor General of Ontario is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to aid accountability by conducting independent audits of Ontario provincial government operations. The office was created in 1869.
The Ontario power plant scandal relates to the decisions by the Liberal government to cancel the construction of two natural gas power plants:one in Mississauga and another in Oakville. Members of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (PC) as well as the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP) also voted to cancel the power plant. The Mississauga cancellation was made as a late campaign promise in the 2011 general election. From immediately following the election until March 18,2013,the Liberal government stated that the cost of the cancellations was $230 million —$190 million for the Mississauga plant and $40 million for the Oakville plant. A final report by the Auditor General of Ontario that was released on October 8,2013,found the total cost of the cancellations was $950 million. This cost included estimates of future costs to the ratepayers.
The Ontario government debt consists of the liabilities of the Government of Ontario. Approximately 82% of Ontario's debt is in the form of debt securities,while other liabilities include government employee pension plan obligations,loans,and accounts payable. The Ontario Financing Authority,which manages the provinces' debt,says that as of March 31,2020,the Ontario government's net debt is CDN $353.3 billion. Net debt is projected to rise to $398 billion in 2020-21. The Debt-to-GDP ratio for 2019-2020 was 39.7%,and is projected to rise to 47.1% in 2020-21. Interest on the debt in 2019-20 was CDN$12.5 billion,representing 8.0% of Ontario's revenue and its fourth-largest spending area.
The Athlete's village for the 2015 Pan American Games and 2015 Parapan American Games cost $735 million CAD and had the capacity to hold up to 7,200 athletes and officials. After the games the village was converted to 746 market priced condos,41 market-priced town homes,250 affordable-rent apartments,257 student dormitory units for George Brown College,office and retail units,and a YMCA recreation centre. The Athlete's Village was located in the West Don Lands along Front Street between Bayview Avenue and Cherry Street in Toronto. The development was certified LEED Gold. Five satellite villages were also used to house athletes that were competing in venues far from the main village.
Doug Ford is the 26th and current premier of Ontario,Canada. He won a majority in the June 7,2018 Ontario general election,as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (CPC) caucus in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and was sworn in as premier on June 29,2018. He was re-elected with an increased majority in the June 2,2022 Ontario general election.
