Boon pronounced as Bonn (also spelled: Bown or Bawn) is a town in the northwestern Awdal region of Somaliland.

Boon is situated about 50 km to the northwest of Borama. [1]

Demographics

Situated in the mountainous western regions of Somaliland, Boon is a district within the Salel region. Known for nurturing creative and problem-solving individuals with captivating stories, it holds the title of the largest town in Salel region and the second-largest in the broader western regions, just behind Borama. Founded as a home by Osman Wabbery, the town proudly hosts its own universities, hospitals, and a thorough townwide water system.

The town's main population includes clans like Rer Kidifaal, Rer Farrahosh, Re Hamun, Re Duule, Ba'aso, Bagediyo subclans of Rer Ahamad Yonis) of the Jibriil Yonis, and the Rer Mohamuud subclan of the Bahabar 'Eli, Mahad 'Ase. Osmangoulo subclans of the Jibril Yoonis and the Hebjire, Aliganoun, Musafin, and Hasansa'ad subclans of the Habar 'Affan, forming a mosaic of tribes within the greater Gadabuursi subclan of the Dir clan family.
