Boon pronounced as Bonn (also spelled: Bown or Bawn) is a town in the northwestern Awdal region of Somaliland.
Boon is situated about 50 km to the northwest of Borama. [1]
Situated in the mountainous western regions of Somaliland, Boon is a district within the Salel region. Known for nurturing creative and problem-solving individuals with captivating stories, it holds the title of the largest town in Salel region and the second-largest in the broader western regions, just behind Borama. Founded as a home by Osman Wabbery, the town proudly hosts its own universities, hospitals, and a thorough townwide water system.
The town's main population includes clans like Rer Kidifaal, Rer Farrahosh, Re Hamun, Re Duule, Ba'aso, Bagediyo subclans of Rer Ahamad Yonis) of the Jibriil Yonis, and the Rer Mohamuud subclan of the Bahabar 'Eli, Mahad 'Ase. Osmangoulo subclans of the Jibril Yoonis and the Hebjire, Aliganoun, Musafin, and Hasansa'ad subclans of the Habar 'Affan, forming a mosaic of tribes within the greater Gadabuursi subclan of the Dir clan family. Awdal is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It was separated from Woqooyi Galbeed and became a province in 1984 and is the most northwesterly province of Somaliland. To the east it borders Maroodi Jeex and Sahil; to its north-west it borders Djibouti; to its south and south-west lies Ethiopia; and the Gulf of Aden to its north. The province has an estimated population of 1,010,566. The region comprises the four districts of Borama, the regional capital, Baki, Lughaya, and Zeila.
Marodi Jeh is an administrative region (gobol) in western Somaliland. It is the most populous region of the country. It is bordered by Awdal to the west, Sahil to the north, Togdheer to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Marodi Jeh was created by splitting the previously existing region (gobolka) Woqooyi Galbeed in two, the other part being Sahil. In 2007 the region of Woqooyi Galbeed was renamed to Maroodi Jeex.
Borama is the largest city of the northwestern Awdal region of Somaliland. The commercial seat of the province, it is situated near the border with Ethiopia.
Dilla is a town located in the western Awdal region of Somaliland. It lies between the city of Borama and Kalabaydh town. The town is presently part of Baki district.
Lughaya is a coastal town in the northwestern Awdal region of Somaliland.

In 1998, the Sheikh District of Togdheer was incorporated into Sahil region. The region has a long coastline facing the Gulf of Aden to the north. Sahil borders Awdal to the northwest, Maroodi Jeex to the southwest, Togdheer to the south and Sanaag to the east.
