Borivoje "Borko" Furht is a Serbian American scientist and author in the field of computer science and engineering. He is a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering and computer science (CEECS) at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He is also director of the National Science Foundation's Industry and University Cooperative Research Center for Advanced Knowledge Enablement at FAU. In 2019, he was inducted into Academia Europaea, which is The Academy of Europe.
Furht served as a senior researcher in the Institute Boris Kidric-Vinca in Yugoslavia (1970–82), an associate professor at University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida (1982–87), and was vice president of research and a senior director of development at MODCOMP (1987–92). He was senior assistant vice president for engineering and technology at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) (2006–08), chair of FAU's the computer science and engineering department (2002–09) and chair of the department of computer and electrical engineering and computer science (2009–13). In 2013 and 2019, Furht was named Researcher of the Year at Florida Atlantic University. [2]
He was founding editor-in-chief of Springer's journals: Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications, [3] and Journal of Big Data . [4] He has published over 40 books [5] and 300 research papers in scientific journals and conferences. He holds more than 50 patents in video coding including 10 essential patents for the VVC video coding standard.
Karlheinz Brandenburg is a German electrical engineer and mathematician. Together with Ernst Eberlein, Heinz Gerhäuser, Bernhard Grill, Jürgen Herre and Harald Popp, he developed the widespread MP3 method for audio data compression. He is also known for his elementary work in the field of audio coding, the perception measurement, the wave field synthesis and psychoacoustics. Brandenburg has received numerous national and international research awards, prizes and honors for his work. Since 2000 he has been a professor of electronic media technology at the Technical University Ilmenau. Brandenburg was significantly involved in the founding of the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology (IDMT) and currently serves as its director.
Thomas Shi-Tao Huang was a Chinese-born Taiwanese-American computer scientist and electrical engineer. He was a researcher and professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Huang was one of the leading figures in computer vision, pattern recognition and human computer interaction.

Kamisetty Ramamohan Rao was an Indian-American electrical engineer. He was a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. Academically known as K. R. Rao, he is credited with the co-invention of discrete cosine transform (DCT), along with Nasir Ahmed and T. Natarajan due to their landmark publication, Discrete Cosine Transform.
Pramod P. Khargonekar is the Vice Chancellor for Research and Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. An expert in control systems engineering, Dr. Khargonekar has served in a variety of administrative roles in academia and federal funding agencies. Most recently, he served as assistant director for Engineering at the National Science Foundation (2013–2016), and as deputy director for Technology at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy. From 2001 through 2009 he was the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Florida.
Martin Vetterli is a professor of engineering of École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, and was the former president of EPFL between 2017 and 2024. He was also formerly the president of the National Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Anastasios (Tas) Venetsanopoulos was a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario and a professor emeritus with the Edward S. Rogers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. In October 2006, Venetsanopoulos joined what was then Ryerson University and served as the founding vice-president of research and innovation. His portfolio included oversight of the university's international activities, research ethics, Office of Research Services, and Office of Innovation and Commercialization. He retired from that position in 2010, but remained a distinguished advisor to the role. Tas Venetsanopoulos continued to actively supervise his research group at the University of Toronto, and was a highly sought-after consultant throughout his career.

He was CEO of Kingsoft, managing director of Microsoft Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and chief technology officer (CTO) of Microsoft China Research and Development Group (CRD). Hongjiang is currently Chairman of BAAI. In 2022, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his technical contributions and leadership in the area of multimedia computing.

Additionally, he has been the Director of the NSF Integrative Graduate Education, Research and Training (IGERT) program in Video Bioinformatics at UC Riverside. Dr. Bhanu has been the principal investigator of various programs for NSF, DARPA, NASA, AFOSR, ONR, ARO and other agencies and industries in the areas of object/target recognition, learning and vision, image/video understanding, image/video databases with applications in security, defense, intelligence, biological and medical imaging and analysis, biometrics, autonomous navigation and industrial machine vision.

Gerald Friedland is a German-American computer scientist and author specializing in multimedia computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. He is a principal scientist at Amazon Web Services and a professor at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department of the University of California, Berkeley. He focuses on AutoML and generative AI. His work has advanced large-scale multimedia analysis, privacy-aware AI, and explainable machine learning.
Subhasis Chaudhuri is an Indian electrical engineer, former director at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSE Limited. He is a former K. N. Bajaj Chair Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering of IIT Bombay. He is known for his pioneering studies on computer vision and is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies viz. the National Academy of Sciences, India, Indian Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Science Academy. He is also a fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 2004 for his contributions to Engineering Sciences.
