Indian Railways is a statutory body under the ownership of the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India that operates India's national railway system. As of 2023, it manages the fourth largest national railway system by size with a track length of 132,310 km (82,210 mi), running track length of 106,493 km (66,172 mi) and route length of 68,584 km (42,616 mi) of which 63,971 km (39,750 mi) is electrified. With more than 1.2 million employees, it is the world's ninth-largest employer and India's second largest employer.
The Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System, commonly referred to as Chennai MRTS, is a metropolitan rail transit system in Chennai, India. It is operated by Southern Railway of the state-owned Indian Railways. Opened in 1995, it was the first elevated railway line in India. The railway line runs from Chennai beach to Velachery, covering a distance of 19.34 km (12.02 mi) with 18 stations and is integrated with the wider Chennai suburban railway network.

The origin of the Southern Railway can be traced back to the Madras Railway formed in 1845. Southern Railway was created on 14 April 1951 by merging three state railways, namely, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway Company, and the Mysore State Railway. Southern Railway maintains about 5,081 km (3,157 mi) of railway lines and operates 727 railway stations.

Amongst other things, it operated the route between Leipzig and Dresden, opened in 1839, and which was the first long-distance railway line in Germany. On 1 July 1876 the company was nationalised and became part of the Royal Saxon State Railways.

The Borsdorf–Coswig railway is a mainline railway in the German state of Saxony, originally built and operated by the Leipzig-Dresden Railway Company. It runs mostly along the Freiberger Mulde from Borsdorf via Döbeln and Meißen to Coswig near Dresden. It is part of a long-distance connection from Leipzig to Dresden, but is now used for local traffic only.

Meißen station is the largest railway station in the town of Meissen in the German state of Saxony. The station was opened in 1860 in the district of Cölln. Its entrance building, which was built in 1928, is a heritage-listed building and along with the Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof it is considered an architecturally significant transport complex of the interwar period. After the ending of long-distance traffic in the 1960s, the station is now a station of the Dresden S-Bahn with only regional significance.

Until it was closed in 1994, there was also a marshalling yard at Leipzig-Wahren station. It is located on the Leipzig–Dresden, Engelsdorf–Leipzig-Connewitz and Leipzig-Wahren–Engelsdorf railways in the Leipzig suburb of Engelsdorf. The halts of Leipzig Werkstättenstraße and Leipzig-Engelsdorf Hp are located in the marshalling yard area. It was called Bahnhof Engelsdorf until December 2016.
