History

The Boston Civic Symphony was founded in 1924 by Joseph Wagner. [1] The group performs at the New England Conservatory in Jordan Hall [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] on Gainsborough Street and at Eleanor Welch Casey Theatre of Regis College Fine Arts Center in Weston. [7]

Highly respected performer, conductor, and teacher Max Hobart has had an association with The Boston Civic Symphony since 1979. [8] Retired after 27 years with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hobart brings a rich perspective to his responsibilities as Music Director of The Boston Civic Symphony. [9]

Seiji Ozawa was a Japanese conductor known internationally for his work as music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and especially the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), where he served from 1973 for 29 years. After conducting the Vienna New Year's Concert in 2002, he was director of the Vienna State Opera until 2010. In Japan, he founded the Saito Kinen Orchestra in 1984, their festival in 1992, and the Tokyo Opera Nomori in 2005.

Max Hobart is an American conductor and violinist. He is currently the Musical Director of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra and was formerly the music director of the Boston Civic Symphony.

The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) is the youth orchestra of the Boston Philharmonic and is considered the premier youth orchestra in the Boston area. Created in 2012, the tuition-free orchestra consists of musicians between the ages of 12-21. The BPYO performs an annual concert series in Boston as well as international tours and has released two commercial recordings. The founder and current conductor of the orchestra is Benjamin Zander.

The Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta (福島青年管弦楽団) is a youth orchestra based in Fukushima developed out of the aftermath of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disaster. Panos Karan and the British NPO Keys of Change created the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta (FYS) in March 2012 which mainly consists of middle-school students from the Fukushima Prefecture.
