The Boston Whitecaps, also referred to as the Caps, were a semi-professional ultimate team, who competed in Major League Ultimate (MLU) until operations were suspended in 2016. They were one of the original 8 Major League Ultimate teams.
On July 13, 2013, following an undefeated 10-and-0 regular season and a 23–15 East Conference Finals victory over the Washington DC Current, the Boston Whitecaps captured the inaugural Major League Ultimate Championship by defeating the San Francisco Dogfish 20–15 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) is a professional ultimate frisbee league in North America. The AUDL was founded by Josh Moore in 2010 and its inaugural season began in April 2012 with eight teams. Regular season games are played April through July. The playoffs consist of three rounds: divisional wild card round, division championships, and finally culminating in a final four style showcase known as AUDL Championship Weekend in August. The winner of each division's championship game advances to Championship Weekend, with semifinals on Saturday and the championship game played on Sunday.

The 2016 Major League Ultimate season was the fourth and final season for the frisbee league. The eight teams were split into two regional conferences, with each team playing a 10-game schedule, including some cross-divisional matches. The top two teams in each conference advanced to the next round, where they competed against the other qualified team from their conference. The winners of these matches advanced to the final to compete for the MLU Championship. On July 16, Philadelphia Spinners won the final 14–11 against Portland Stags to become the 2016 MLU Champions.
