Box Design & Build (also known as Box Living), is a design and construction company based in Auckland, New Zealand. [1] [2]

History

Box was founded in November 2011 by entrepreneur Dan Heyworth, architect Tim Dorrington, builder Nat Jakich and surveyor Nat Holloway, as a platform of making architecturally designed homes for general public. [3] [2]

The company works on the building model with a post-and-beam exoskeleton with off-site construction and prefabrication, the residential work is based on mid-century modern movement. [4] [1]

A Box home in Hillsborough, Auckland featured on the TV show Grand Designs NZ in 2015. [5] [6]

In 2013 and 2016, the company was awarded New Zealand Institute of Architects award for a project design of a home and post-and-beam design of a multi-unit housing respectively. [7] [8] [9]

In 2018 and 2019, the company won silver and gold awards for projects at the Regional Awards of the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition. [10]

He has received numerous awards, including the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) Gold Medal in 2012 for outstanding contributions to the practice of architecture.

John Wilfred Manning was a New Zealand architect from Auckland. He is well known for a wide variety of designs including houses (particularly his own house at Stanley Bay, Cathcart House, and large commercial buildings. He was a fellow of the NZIA and was the recipient of its highest honour, the Gold Medal, in 2011.

David John Mitchell was a New Zealand architect based in Auckland. He presented the 1984 television series The Elegant Shed, and co-authored the book of the same name. Mitchell was awarded the gold medal of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) in 2005.

Lynda Simmons is a New Zealand architect and academic, and is a professional teaching fellow at the University of Auckland. Simmons was a co-founder of the Architecture + Women NZ association. She was made a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects in 2013, and was awarded a President's Award in 2014 for her advocacy work.

Lindley Rae Naismith is a New Zealand architect. She established Scarlet Architects and went on to co-create the Scarlet Prize in Architecture. Naismith has performed the role of judge for the New Zealand Home of the Year Award as well as the Te Kahui Wahaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects awards. She is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects and in 2017 won the Munro Diversity Award at the Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards.

Felicity Wallace is a New Zealand architect who has been in practice since 1989. New Zealand's Home magazine recognised one of her designs as "Home of the Year" in 1997. She teaches design at university level and she continues to lead and design.

Dorita Hannah is a New Zealand architect, independent academic, visual artist and designer. She has had an architectural practice, taught at various institutions in New Zealand and internationally, and has published articles and book chapters including Event-Space: Theatre Architecture and the Historical Avant-Garde (2018).
