Issake Dabore was a boxer from Niger who mainly fought in the light-welterweight and welterweight weight classes. Dabore competed at three Olympics; Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972. He was the first Nigerien person to compete at the Olympics and the first Nigerien to win an Olympic medal. Dabore won his Olympic medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the men's light-welterweight.

Francis Roy "Frank" Roberts was an Indigenous Australian boxer who competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the welterweight division. 'Honest Frank', as he was known, was the first Indigenous Australian Olympian, and was also the youngest boxer on the Australian boxing team. He resided in Armidale, New South Wales, and gave boxing lessons to local youths, until his death from a heart attack in February 2011.

At the 2017 African Boxing Championships in Brazzaville, Clair secured a silver medal in the 69 kg weight class, suffering his only defeat of the tournament in the final against Muzamiru Kakande from Uganda. He won the gold medal at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco in the welterweight class by defeating the Nigerian boxer Abdulafeez Osoba in the final. At the 2020 African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Stephen Zimba by referee stoppage in the second round.
