Brad Howell is an American keyboardist, pianist, composer and singer, known as the singer who provided the vocals for German band Chilly and the actual vocals lip-synced by Rob Pilatus for the musical duo Milli Vanilli. [1] [2]
When Howell became a keyboardist and pianist, he appeared on chat shows and other programs featuring music.[ citation needed ] During one of these appearances, he came to the attention of producer Frank Farian, who wanted him to provide the vocals that would later be attributed to the duo Milli Vanilli. Howell did this work on all of the duo's albums until the truth became public, leading to a worldwide scandal. Subsequently Farian decided to form a band using all of the vocalists who did the singing for the act, which he called The Real Milli Vanilli . However, they only released one album called The Moment of Truth and released four unsuccessful singles. They fared better on German charts, where the most successful was "Keep on Running", which peaked at no. 4. [2] The Real Milli Vanilli appeared on many talk shows as performers, one award-winning ceremony in Germany and toured in America. Howell continued to play piano and keyboard after The Real Milli Vanilli.[ citation needed ]

Milli Vanilli was a German R&B music act from Munich. The act was packaged by Boney M. founder, Frank Farian, in 1988 and consisted of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus as the lip-syncing dancers, with the two main studio singers, Brad Howell, John Davis and studio singers, Charles Shaw, Jodie Rocco, and Linda Rocco, with an unrelated touring band. Their debut album, as All or Nothing in Europe, and expanded, including Baby Don't Forget My Number and Blame It on the Rain, composed by Diane Warren, as Girl You Know It's True in the United States, achieved international success and brought them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist on 21 February 1990.

Fabrice Maxime Sylvain Morvan is a French singer, dancer, and model who was half of the pop duo Milli Vanilli, along with Rob Pilatus. It was later revealed that the duo had not actually sung on any of their recordings. After the scandal, the group reformed as Rob & Fab in the 1990s with limited success. In the United Kingdom, rather than being given a stand-alone release, the album was packaged together with All or Nothing under the title 2×2. 2×2 was also released in France, where the remix album was available on its own.
The Remix Album is an album released by Milli Vanilli in 1990. Due to the significant differences between the original Milli Vanilli debut album, All or Nothing, and the North America-only Girl You Know It's True release, producer Frank Farian decided to repackage these previously unreleased songs in a remix album. Miming in instrumental performance or finger-synching is the act of musicians pretending to play their instruments in a live show, audiovisual recording or broadcast. Miming in instrument playing is the musical instrument equivalent of lip-syncing in singing performances, the action of pretending to sing while a prerecorded track of the singing is sounding over a PA system or on a TV broadcast or in a movie. In some cases, instrumentalists will mime playing their instruments, but the singing will be live. In some cases, the instrumentalists are miming playing their instruments and the singers are lip-synching while a backing track plays. As with lip-synching, miming instrument playing has been criticized by some music industry professionals and it is a controversial practice.

Girl You Know It's True is an upcoming biographical film about the controversial late-1980s/early-1990s music duo Milli Vanilli that caused one of the most infamous scandals in international pop music. Between 2021 and 2022, German-Austrian filmmaker Simon Verhoeven wrote, directed and co-produced the biopic, which was produced by Wiedemann & Berg Film, with Leonine as the theatrical distributor, due to be released in cinemas 2023. The movie stars Tijan Njie and Elan Ben Ali as the lip-synching stage artitst Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan respectively, as well as Matthias Schweighöfer as the instigating music producer/manager Frank Farian.
