Braeden Backus (born May 15, 2006) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a left back for New York Cosmos in the USL League One.

Career

Youth and amateur

Born in South Lyon, Michigan, Backus began his career in the academy of local MLS Next club Michigan Jaguars. In 2022, he moved to Dallas, Texas, joining the academy of FC Dallas. While with Dallas he featured regularly as a left winger or left back. [1]

In early 2025, Backus returned to Michigan, joining United Premier Soccer League club Detroit City FC II. He made 13 appearance for the club during the fall 2025 season. [2] He also trained with the USL Championship side during the year.

Professional

Westchester SC

On August 1, 2025, Backus signed an academy contract with USL League One side Westchester SC. He was on the gameday roster for the first team on eight occasions, but did not make his debut for the first team. [3]

New York Cosmos

On December 19, 2025, Backus signed with USL League One side New York Cosmos ahead of their return to professional competition. [4]
