Tulu is a Dravidian language whose speakers are concentrated in Dakshina Kannada and the southern part of Udupi of Karnataka in south-western India and in the northern part of the Kasaragod district of Kerala. The native speakers of Tulu are referred to as Tuluva or Tulu people and the geographical area is unofficially called Tulu Nadu.
Narayana Guru, IPA: [n̪ɐːɾɐːjɐɳɐ guɾu], was a philosopher, spiritual leader and social reformer in India. He led a reform movement against the injustice in the caste-ridden society of Kerala in order to promote spiritual enlightenment and social equality.
Narayana Swamy, known by his stage name Srinath, is an Indian actor and film producer who works predominantly in Kannada cinema. He holds the position of vice-president of the Kannada television channel Udaya TV. He is popular for presenting the Game Show, Adarsha Dampatigalu. Srinath has earned the nickname Pranaya Raja meaning 'King of Romance' because of his stupendous success in romantic movies during the 70s. In 2003, he was conferred the ‛Kalaratna’ Award by the Government of Karnataka.
Vidyabhushana (1952-) is a vocalist from Karnataka. He sings devotional songs, chiefly Haridasa compositions, and carnatic classical music. He has many albums to his credit, mainly devotional songs in Kannada, Tulu and has given concerts all over the world. His first album was titled "Dasara Padagalu" and the 100th titled "Tanu Ninnadu Jivana Ninnadu". Performing for more than 40 years, he has traveled to many countries including a tour across the United States in 1999., He was honoured with the title of Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi in 1994. He was also honoured the Doctorate by Hampi University.
Tulu cinema, also known as Coastalwood, is a part of Indian cinema. The Tulu film industry produces five to seven films annually. The first Tulu film was Enna Thangadi released in 1971. Usually, earlier, these films were released in theatres across the Tulu Nadu region. But currently the Tulu film industry has grown to such an extent that films are being released simultaneously in Mangalore, Udupi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Gulf countries. The critically acclaimed Tulu film Suddha won the award for the best Indian Film at the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema held in New Delhi in 2006. In 2011, the Tulu film Industry got a second lease of life with the release of the film Oriyardori Asal. The film turned out to be the biggest hit in Tulu film history to date. Chaali Polilu is the longest running film in Tulu film industry. This movie is the highest-grossing film in the Tulu film industry. It has successfully completed 470 days at PVR Cinemas in Mangalore.
Abhaya Simha is a Kannada film director and screenwriter. He was born and brought up in Mangalore, Karnataka, INDIA. He did his graduation from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. He studied Kannada, English Literature and Journalism. After that he specialized in Film Direction from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He started his film career in Bangalore in 2007. His debut venture Gubbachchigalu won the National Award for the best children's film for the year 2008. His second venture was a bilingual movie named Shikari. Shikari was released in March 2012 across Karnataka and Kerala. His third film was Sakkare in Kannada starring Ganesh (actor). It was released across Karnataka in November 2013. In 2017 he made Paddayi in Tulu won 65th National award for Best Feature Film in Tulu.
Barke is a Tulu film directed by Bharath Krishna and produced by Suresh Reddy. It stars Ashwin Shetty, Srikanth, Balachandra, Nagaraj, and Riya Meghana in the lead roles. Krishna also wrote the screenplay for the movie. The film is based on a true story.
Koti Chennaya is 2007 historical Tulu language film based on the lives of Koti and Chennayya, the twin cultural folk heroes of Tulu Nadu. The film, which combines history, folklore and social stratum of yesteryear Tulu Nadu, is directed by Anand P Raju, with R Dhanaraj serving as producer under the banner of Prarthana Creations. The film stars Balakrishna Shetty as Koti, Shekar Kotian as Chennaiah, Vinaya Prasad as Kinnidaru and Neethu as Deyi Baidithi in the lead roles.
Ekka Saka is a Tulu language film, directed by K. Sooraj Shetty and produced by Lion Kishore D. Shetty for Lukumi Cine Creations. It stars Hitesh Naik and Sonal Monteiro. The film was released on 1 May 2015.

The film stars Vaman Raj in the title role, with supporting roles by Sudha Rani, Kasargod Chinna, Sarojini Shetty, Sundeep Malani, Rohidas Kadri and others. It was shot in and around Mangalore. The film ran for 105 days in Jyothi Talkies, Mangalore. It was the first Tulu cinema which won national award.
