Pravin Godkhindi (born 28 October 1973) is an Indian classical Hindustani flute (bansuri) player. [1] He has mastered both the tantrakari and gayaki style of playing on the flute. He was called a top ranking artist in Hindustani bansuri, by Akashvani (AIR). [2] [3]

Bansuri

A bansuri is a side blown flute originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is an aerophone produced from bamboo, used in Hindustani classical music. It is referred to as nadi and tunava in the Rigveda and other Vedic texts of Hinduism. Its importance and operation is discussed in the Sanskrit text Natya Shastra.

In the South, it is also called by various other names such as pullangkuzhal (புல்லாங்குழல்) in Tamil, oodakuzhal (ഓടകുഴൽ) or kurungu kuzhal in Malayalam (Kerala) and ಕೊಳಲು (koḷalu) or ಮುರಳಿ(muraļi) in Kannada (Karnataka). It is known as pillana grōvi or Vēṇuvu (వేణువు) in Telugu. It is also called as Carnatic Flute.

Krishnarao Shankar Pandit (1893–1989) was an Indian musician, considered by many as one of the leading vocalists of the Gwalior gharana. He authored several articles and 8 books on music and was the founder of Shankar Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, a music college based in Gwalior. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1973, for his contributions to music. He was also a recipient of several other honors, including the 1959 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the 1980 Tansen Award of the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
