NOFX is an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1983. Vocalist/bassist Fat Mike, guitarist Eric Melvin and drummer Erik Sandin are original founding and longest-serving members of the band, who have appeared on every release of the band, although Sandin departed briefly in 1985, only to rejoin the following year. El Hefe joined the band in 1991 to play lead guitar and trumpet, rounding out the current line-up.

Skate punk is both a skater subculture and a subgenre of punk rock music. Originally a genre of hardcore punk closely associated with skate culture, skate punk changed into a more melodic genre of punk rock in the 1990s. Since the 1990s, skate punk has been a genre that features fast tempos, lead guitar playing, fast drumming, and singing. Featuring the fast tempos of hardcore punk and melodic hardcore, skate punk occasionally combines these with the catchy hooks of pop punk. Skate videos have traditionally featured this fast style of punk rock. This played a big part in the coining of the term "skate punk".

Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu, after which Reis had found international success with Rocket from the Crypt. Scott Sturgeon, also known as Stza Crack or simply Stza, is an American musician who has fronted several ska-punk bands in the New York City area, the best known being Choking Victim and Leftöver Crack. The stage name Stza is a tribute to the Wu-Tang Clan, in which the members would take their stage names from the Supreme Alphabet of the Five Percent Nation, such as GZA and RZA - Stza's name would therefore be Self Truth ZigZagZig Allah.
Student Rick was an emo band from South Bend, Indiana that consisted of Adam Reiter (guitar/vocals), Brett Jones (guitar/vocals), Jason Pavilanis (bass), and Zach Davis (drums). They were most known for their song "Falling for You" from the Victory Records release Soundtrack for a Generation, which was featured in the video game Aggressive Inline. In early 2002, drummer Zach Davis broke his foot getting off stage after a Los Angeles show. "Falling for You" is commonly a victim of misattribution on file sharing networks, frequently displayed as being written by Taking Back Sunday, Simple Plan, Something Corporate, or The Starting Line. The band broke up in November 2002.

The band's career ended in 2012 following Tony Sly's death on July 31 of that year.
