The University of Kentucky is a public land-grant research university in Lexington,Kentucky. Founded in 1865 by John Bryan Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky,the university is one of the state's two land-grant universities. It is the institution with the highest enrollment in the state,with 32,710 students as of fall 2022.

Brandon Emmanuel Knight is an American professional basketball player for AEK Athens of the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. A two-time Gatorade National Player of the Year,Knight played one season of college basketball for Kentucky before being selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2011 NBA draft. After two seasons with the Pistons,he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He spent a season and a half in Milwaukee before being traded to the Phoenix Suns in February 2015. In August 2018,he was traded to the Houston Rockets. At the 2019 trade deadline,he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded back to the Pistons at the 2020 trade deadline.
Terry Mills is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives who represented District 24. Mills won a February 2010 Special election to fill the vacancy caused by the election of Representative Jimmy Higdon to the Kentucky Senate. He served until he was defeated by Republican candidate Brandon Reed on November 8,2016.

Lira Motorsports is an American professional stock car racing team that competes in the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East. Owned by Carlos and Amanda Lira,the team made its debut in the ARCA Menards Series in 2015,fielding multiple cars and drivers throughout the year. The team made its Camping World Truck Series debut on November 20,2015 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Lira Motorsports also fields cars in NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Series competition. Lira Motorsports is a driver development satellite team for Roush Fenway Racing.
Allison Joy Ball is an American attorney and politician who is the Kentucky State Auditor. She served as the Kentucky State Treasurer from 2016 to 2024. Ball is a member of the Republican Party.
The 2016–17 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team represented Duke University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were coached by a 37th-year head coach,Mike Krzyzewski. Starting on January 7,Jeff Capel temporarily took over coaching duties while Krzyzewski recovered from lower back surgery. The Blue Devils played their home games at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham,North Carolina as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They finished the season 28–9,11–7 in ACC play to finish in fifth place. They became the first ACC team to win four games in four days on their way to winning the ACC tournament. They received the ACC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated Troy in the first round to advance to the second round where they lost to South Carolina.
The 2026 United States Senate elections are scheduled to be held on November 3,2026,with 33 of the 100 seats in the Senate being contested in regular elections,the winners of which will serve six-year terms in the United States Congress from January 3,2027,to January 3,2033. Senators are divided into three groups,or classes,whose terms are staggered so that a different class is elected every two years. Class 2 senators were last elected in 2020,and will be up for election again in 2032.
United States gubernatorial elections were held on November 7,2023,in the states of Kentucky and Mississippi,with an election having occurred in Louisiana on October 14. The Democratic Party retained control of the governorship in Kentucky,flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court and held a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court,gained six seats in the New Jersey General Assembly,and won back unified control of the Virginia General Assembly,while Republicans also flipped the governorship in Louisiana and narrowly retained Mississippi's governorship. The election cycle also saw Ohio voting to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and legalize cannabis for recreational use. The results were widely seen as a success for the Democratic Party.
The 2021–22 Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team represented the University of Kentucky in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Wildcats,founding members of the Southeastern Conference,played their home games at Rupp Arena and were led by John Calipari in his 13th season as head coach. The Wildcats finished the season 26–8,14–4 in SEC play to finish a tie for second place. As the No. 3 seed in the SEC tournament,they defeated Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals before losing to Tennessee in the semifinals. They received an at large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East region. The Wildcats became just the 10th No. 2 seed to lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament,losing to No. 15-seeded Saint Peter’s 85–79 in overtime. It also marked the first time Kentucky had suffered a First Round exit under Calipari,and allowed eventual tournament champion Kansas to take the all-time record for most wins in Division I men's college basketball history.
