The Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine is a public health school in Israel affiliated with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Hadassah Medical Center.

History

Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine was founded in 1961. [1] It was the country's first public health school. [2] The school offers a one year International Master of Health program in English that is APHEA accredited. The program has over 850 graduates from 100 countries. [2]

Menny (Menahem) Rabinovich was a multi-disciplinary Israeli biochemist with expertise in nutrition, health and medicinal plants. Rabinovich was a researcher at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. He was the founder and director of the Wise Nutrition Center and the developer of the dietary supplement Curcumall. He researched in the fields of molecular biology, science education and integrative medicine focusing on nutrition and health. He served as a member of the scientific committee of the Hebrew Encyclopedia editor and writer of articles in biochemistry, geology, chemistry and medicine.

Sarah Bavly was a Dutch–Israeli nutritionist, educator, researcher, and author. Having immigrated from the Netherlands to British Mandatory Palestine in 1926, she became the chief dietitian for Hadassah hospitals and head of Hadassah's school lunch program. Her 1939 book Tzunatenu was a standard elementary-school textbook for nearly 30 years. She founded and directed the Institute of Nutrition Education in 1952 and was founder and dean of the College of Nutrition and Home Economics in Jerusalem from 1953 to 1965. After her retirement, she continued to engage in research and conducted periodic nutrition surveys for the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics.

Prof. Joshua Shemer chairs the Assuta Medical Centers network in Israel, currently building and developing the new advanced highly sophisticated public hospital in the city of Ashdod, the first of its kind built in Israel in the past forty years. He formerly served as Director General of Maccabi Healthcare Services, providing health services to 24% of the Israeli population. Shifra Shvarts, born in June 1949, holds the position of Professor Emeritus at the Center for Medical Education within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University. Shvarts holds significant positions as the Deputy Director-General of the International Society for the History of Medicine and as the Deputy Secretary General of the World Organization for the History of Medicine. Yael Bar-Zeev is an Israeli Public Health Physician, behavioral scientist, epidemiologist, and a tobacco treatment specialist. She has been a faculty member at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine since 2019. She is also the Chair of the Israel Medical Association for Smoking Cessation and Prevention.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hagai Levine</span>

Hagai Levine is an Israeli public health physician and epidemiologist. Until 2021, Levine was the chairman of Israel’s association of Public Health Physicians. He left to help Moshe Ya'alon and Telem “bring ‘security and hope to Israel’ again.” The Association announced Nadav Davidovitch would serve as interim chairman.

Ora Paltiel is an epidemiologist and a professor in the Braun School of Public Health, where she was also director of the Master’s in Public Health program from 2013 until 2016, and in the Department of Hematology. She has also served as Dean at the Braun School.
