Brendan P. Crighton is a Massachusetts politician.
Mr. Crighton graduated from Lynn Classical High School,in 2001;and from Colby College,with a B.A. in Government,in 2005. [1]
He began his political career working in the office of State Senator Thomas M. McGee,2005-2015. He was elected as a Lynn city councilor serving first as the Ward 5 Councilor from 2010 to 2014,and at large from 2014 to 2016. He then won a three-way race for the Massachusetts House of Representatives where he served from 2015 to 2018. [1] [2]
He is the only candidate in the 2018 special election to succeed his former boss Thomas McGee,who resigned as State Senator for the Third Essex District. He was elected to the Senate on March 6,2018. He has been serving in the Massachusetts Senate since March 7,2018. In 2024,he is the Chairperson of the Joint Committee on Transportation. [1]

The 1964 United States Senate elections were held on November 3. The 33 seats of Class 1 were contested in regular elections. Special elections were also held to fill vacancies. They coincided with the election of President Lyndon B. Johnson by an overwhelming majority,to a full term. His Democratic Party picked up a net two seats from the Republicans. As of 2023,this was the last time either party has had a two-thirds majority in the Senate,which allowed the Senate Democrats to override a veto,propose constitutional amendments,or convict and expel certain officials without any votes from Senate Republicans. However,internal divisions would have prevented the Democrats from having done so. The Senate election cycle coincided with Democratic gains in the House in the same year.
