Brett Gale is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He played for Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and North Sydney in the NSWRL competition.

Gale is the older brother of the late Scott Gale

Playing career

Gale made his first grade debut in round 10 of the 1982 NSWRL season against Parramatta at Lidcombe Oval. Gale played from the bench as Wests defeated the defending premiers 19-7. Gale played another season with Western Suburbs in 1983 where they finished with the Wooden Spoon before transferring to Eastern Suburbs. Gale was limited to only four appearances with Easts as they finished second last on the table. Gale then transferred back to Western Suburbs with the club continuing to struggle on the field claiming the wooden spoon in 1987 and 1988. In 1989, Gale signed for North Sydney but only made two appearances for the club, the last being against Parramatta where they won 34-18 at North Sydney Oval in round 5 of the competition. Personal life

Following retirement from rugby league, Gale became a police officer with the NSW Police Force. In 2006, Gale was charged for robbing a Brisbane pub and later jailed for four years over the incident. In 2010, Gale was ordered to stand trial over another pub which was robbed in Nimbin. [5] [6] [7] [8]

The Western Suburbs Magpies is an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as the club is commonly referred to, was one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. Cumberland, officially known as Central Cumberland, were a rugby league team in 1908 based in the region of Cumberland Plain in western Sydney. They were one of the nine original teams in the first New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) season, albeit admitted after the first round of matches had already been played. They are the shortest lived team in the history of first-grade rugby league in Australia after disbanding late that year. Statistically, they are the club with the poorest all-time record, only lasting eight games in their inaugural and only season.

The history of the Parramatta Eels dates back to their formation as the Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club in 1947 to the present day.

The 1974 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 67th season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six of 1908's foundation clubs and another six from across Sydney, competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a grand final match for the WD & HO Wills Cup between the Eastern Suburbs and Canterbury-Bankstown clubs. This season NSWRFL teams also competed for the inaugural Amco Cup.

Lidcombe Oval is a playing field and velodrome in the Western Sydney suburb of Lidcombe and is part of Wyatt Park. It was first opened in 1933 with a completely flat track velodrome. Within a year the velodrome was rebuilt to include the banking that we see today. It is situated in the western end of Church Street, on the northern side of the railway line. The outfield has a capacity of more than 20,000 spectators. While the venue has been used for a number of sports over the years, velodrome has been in continuous use for track cycling events. Lidcombe-Auburn Cycle Club since 1947, and Neo Cycling Club since 2015.

John Baker is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for Western Suburbs and Parramatta in the NSWRL competition.

Scott Gale (1965-2004) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. Nicknamed "Mr Midnight" he played for the Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs, Balmain, North Sydney and the Canberra Raiders in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition and Hull FC in England. His sister Tarsha Gale was the first captain of NSW in Women's Rugby League.

Ron Thornton was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played for Canterbury-Bankstown in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition.
