Personal life

Goldsmith is the son of British-born actress Rona Newton-John (1941–2013) and Melbourne nightclub owner Brian Goldsmith. His grandfather was University of Melbourne professor Brinley ("Bryn") Newton-John. His great-grandfather was German-Jewish physicist and Nobel Prize winner Max Born.

Olivia Newton-John was his aunt, while singer/actress Tottie Goldsmith is his younger sister and race car driver Emerson Newton-John his younger half-brother. [1] [2] [3]

Music

In the mid 1980s Goldsmith programmed (and played bass guitar & keyboards on) the album Chantoozies for the band Chantoozies, a top ten album which was released through Mushroom Records.

Goldsmith co-wrote the singles "Wanna Be Up" & "Kiss n Tell" with fellow band member Eve von Bibra. [4] "Wanna Be Up" peaked at no. 8 on the ARIA singles charts. [5] He was also one of the original male members of the band. [6]

After leaving Chantoozies, Goldsmith toured with James Reyne as his bass guitarist. [7] They co-wrote the song Black and Blue World on Reyne's 1991 album Electric Digger Dandy . [8] In 2013 Goldsmith released a solo album, Ordinary Life though MGM Distribution (Australia). [9]

The title track was covered by Olivia Newton-John in 2014 on her EP Hotel Sessions , also co-written & produced by Goldsmith. [10] [11] [12] [13]

Eve Sarah von Bibra is an Australian singer-songwriter and actress. From 1986 to 1991, she was a member of the pop group, Chantoozies, as one of four female lead vocalists. She co-wrote their hit, "Wanna Be Up", which peaked in the top 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart in July 1988. Von Bibra acted in the 2006 movie Kenny, playing Jackie – a flight attendant and the title character's love interest. She studied at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and is a member of the Australian branch of the Bibra family.

The Chantoozies are an Australian pop group, formed in 1986. The group featured four female vocalists: Eve von Bibra, Angie La Bozzetta, Ally Fowler and Tottie Goldsmith, and four male musicians: Brett Goldsmith, Scott Griffiths, Frank McCoy and David Reyne. Their name is an intentional mispronunciation of the French word for a female singer, "chanteuse".

Richard Arnold Pleasance is an Australian rock musician and producer. Simon Cyril Hussey is an Australian multi-instrumentalist, songwriter-arranger, record producer and audio engineer. In 1984 he formed Cats Under Pressure on keyboards with David Reyne on vocals and Mark Greig on guitar. On the Australian Crawl album Between a Rock and a Hard Place, Hussey co-wrote four tracks with the band's lead singer, James Reyne. In 1987 when James undertook his solo career, Hussey joined his backing band on keyboards, and co-wrote six tracks for James' debut self-titled album including top 10 hit singles, "Hammerhead" (October) and "Motor's Too Fast". In May 1988 Hussey was the producer, and provided keyboards and song writing, for Edge (November), the comeback album by Daryl Braithwaite (ex-Sherbet), which peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for three weeks in mid-1989.

Hotel Sessions is an extended play (EP) recording by British-Australian recording artist Olivia Newton-John, released on 8 April 2014. It is her first EP focusing on unreleased songs and was released independently by ONJ Productions, Newton-John's own production company. It was also Newton-John's last album released by that company, before she signed with Sony Music Australia.
