The New Saints of Oswestry Town & Llansantffraid Football Club, also known as The New Saints or TNS, are a professional football club that currently play in the Cymru Premier. Despite being an English team, they are the most successful club in the Welsh league structure, with 15 league titles to their name. Since the 2001–02 season they have finished as champions or runners-up in every season apart from 2008–09, where they finished third in the league.
Ian James Rush is a Welsh former professional footballer who played as a forward. He is regarded as one of the best strikers of all time and one of the best Welsh players in the history of the sport. At club level Rush played for Liverpool from 1980–1987 and 1988–1996. Additionally, he is the club's all-time leading goalscorer, having scored a total of 346 goals in all competitions at the club. At international level, Rush made 73 appearances for the Wales national football team and remained the record goalscorer with 28 goals between 1980 and 1996, until the record was broken by Gareth Bale in 2018.

Chester City F.C. were a football club which existed from 1885 until 2010, being formed as Chester FC before the suffix "City" added to the club's title in 1983. Signed by Chester from Liverpool in 1958, he made his professional debut in a 2–2 draw at Walsall on 11 September 1958. He became the third Chester goalkeeper to appear for the first team that season after Brian Biggins and Keith Griffiths, but new signing Ron Howells was to become regular keeper from the next game and Owen did not reappear until the final match of the 1959–60 season against Southport.
Kenneth Joseph Birch was an English footballer who played as a right-half for Everton and Southampton, before leading Welsh club Bangor City to victory in the Welsh Cup in 1962.
Albert Gray was a Welsh professional footballer who played as goalkeeper for various clubs in the 1920s and 30s, including Oldham Athletic, Manchester City, Tranmere Rovers and Chester. For his country, he made 24 appearances between 1924 and 1938, helping Wales win the British Home Championship three times.
John Kennedy, widely known as Jack Kennedy, is a former professional footballer from Northern Ireland who played as a goalkeeper. He played for several years for Distillery in his native country before turning professional with Celtic. After a spell in the United States with the Detroit Cougars, he spent seven years with English Football League club Lincoln City and had a spell in non-League football with Lincoln United. Kennedy was an amateur international for Northern Ireland, played for the Irish League representative team, and kept goal for Great Britain in qualifying matches for the 1964 Summer Olympics.
